Title: Diesel - not ready to lay down and die just yet...
Post by: Viral_Jim on 16 July 2017, 23:19:56
Looks like Ze Germans have been beavering away on reducing the NOx coming from diesels. May well stave off the demise of diesel for a good few years longer...

3 - 2 - 1 & you`re back in the room Jimmy  ;D

I nearly fell for that one too .....phew all that electo-treated diesel babble.
Oil fryed up by 48V  & pee`d on, even in real world terms  is gonna get a bit whiffy isn`t it ???

Probably so, and definitely HGV I would imagine.

Various businesses have a cumulative tens of billions of pounds/dollars invested in Diesel tech, the financial case for a "bolt on" box that will allow them to continue making money from those investments is compelling. Especially compared with the cost of throwing it all in the bin in favour of a completely new technology.

Yup and add to that battery/electric power is still some way off from being mainstream.

Although I can see one day you pull into a filling station, part with small some of money for something the size of an AA battery. You then go to "fill up" and basically swap out the AA battery   :D  ;D

I'm sure the software will only power it up when it detects that it is being tested for emissions. ::)

There will soon be so many daft emissions devices on a tractor that they won't be viable for passenger cars, only on HGVs and buses.

SOON? You don't think the improvements in drivability and economy that came at the cost of medium to long-term durability did that 20years ago?
