Title: Coolant temp gauge weird problem
Post by: andyf on 18 July 2017, 20:29:11
Hope someone can help with this one-my problems are never simple!
I've just changed the engine oil cooler in the valley of my x reg 2.5v6 and now the temp gauge doesnt work. Everything else is ok.
I've so far replaced the sender and the spade connector on the blue wire with no success.
The blue wire has 12 volts with the ignition on. 0 volts with ignition off
If i take the wire off the sender and earth it the old fashioned way the gauge still doent move.
there is electrical continuity between the sender and battery earth.
It worked fine before the stripdown.
Can anyone help please?
Andy

Spade connector is an extension from another plug 5" away. Check it's still connected  :y

It now appears i might have wrecked the gauge by earthing it as the high temp light comes on after about 5 seconds if i leave the sender wire earthed. This would be about the right amount of time for the gauge to go up. Will try another gauge when i have time
The coolant smells lovely with persil non bio in it!
It's cleaned the oil out of the coolant nicely.
