well the car that has been dumped in our busy road has just become untaxed for the requisite 2 months and 2 days before DVLA will lift a finger.
but it has just become SORN >:(. Even though it is on a public road and hasn't moved for 4 months!
is this someone working the system, knowing you can get away with 2 months and 2 days without tax and now moving on to a similar SORN scam?
anyone know the best way to progress this?

Apply for a V5, and get it dragged onto your drive. When the V5 arrives, get a key cut and either use it or scrap it.

Un Taxed and SORN is the same thing on a Public Highway or Government Controlled (or Council) Land, it may be liable to being Clamped, Lifted, Destroyed etc.
The only difference is the Penalty (Fine and UnPaid Tax), you will normally get double fines if SORN, one for Fine and UnPaid Tax and another for declaring SORN whilst being used on a Public Highway.

take a photo and send it to the police saying how long its been there and what street, it be gone in a few hours done it before, had one on our street no one was the register keeper on the street they came out as its says on the form they sent out the vehicle could be being used for illegal activities grounds for removal. ,

You are hardly likely to get a V5 for it, especially when someone obviously has an interest in the vehicle because of the SORN. Without a V5, any application for a new V5 results in a letter going to the registered keeper to verify if they have sold / disposed of it. No response from the RK after a certain time frame does result in a new V5 (at a cost) but as its been sorned I doubt it will result in a new one.
If you don't mind getting done for theft of the vehicle as well - the registered keeper is not necessarily the legal owner. So assuming the rights of the owner when you start using it or scrapping it could end up with you getting a visit from the boys in blue......

Ok, don't scrap it... but as you say, the V5 doesn't imply ownership, so that works both ways...

yeah i just ignored dg's invitation to jail. ::)
owners tipped up late on Friday and moved it after clearing the contents (bags of clothes) into the bin.
council turned up monday. 4 months after it was reported >:(

A couple of years ago I reported someone to the Police for parking and driving a car that hadn't had an MOT for over 6 months and looked like an absolute deathtrap, and I was told that there was little they could do! :o ::)
The lady said that if it was untaxed then they would inform DVLA who would go round and lift it pretty quickly. ??? She didn't seem to be impressed with my comment that the authorities were more interested in revenue than road safety. ::) >:(

There are numerous individuals around here that think they are above the law riding around without tax mot or insurance and licences in some cases and they are never quite sober either. but when you tell the police or the dvla you get the same response every time which is we don't care and goodbye effectively. of course at various times you can see the camera vans about trying to catch someone doing 31 in a 30 or 41 in a 40 trying the best they can to make money and if you complain about it your a bad evil driver..
