I've got a Tesco's special tablet which I use to watch films / play music ect when i'm stuck in hotel rooms.
The memory on this contraption is very small so any films / music is stored on various usb thumb drives.
Problem is, the tablet uses the same port to charge as to read the usb drive. If the film is any longer then a couple of hours with the screen brightness turned up then the tablets battery fades away and I have to stop doing whatever i'm doing and stick it on charge again :(
Can anyone personally recommend a adaptor which will let me supply charging power to the tablet AND run a usb drive at the same time ?

Get a better tablet, or plan for an interlude ;D

Type "OTG and charge at the same time" into Amazon search, then select the best one for your needs. :y

Hudl 2?
Bloody awful unit, they stopped development and shipped an unfinished unit out due to Tesco shutting the whole lot down.
Would not surprise me if their crap butchering of Android would actually support dual actions from the micro USB port.
Get a better tablet. :P

I swear by a maplins own 2.4a usb charger, snapdragon detector enables compatible devices to fast charge, my s6 for example takes 35 or so minutes to charge when its dead as a dodo.
I wouldnt recommend heavy usage while charging as the phone gets way hot
I was working as a baker in tesco's when the hudl came out, all the managers had babies arm over it
The link to the charger

and 4.8a which I may get next due to the extra ports

Nah, its a Viglen 8 inch contraption that runs on Windows 10 :y
To be fair, it works pretty well and even runs certain apps on Kodi ;)
A bit slow for day to day use but does the job when board out of your tits when stuck in a hotel room :)

They are always plenty of sockets in these dumps so charging it isn't a problem.
I even have a battery pack that will give it about a 75% charge from flat in a emergency if needed :y
Really need something to apply power and let the device read a thumb drive at the same time :y
Thanks :)

Is this what I need ?

So you need an OTG adaptor and hope that your device supports OTG charging as the default when they see a peripheral is to supply power to it rather than accept power for charging.
-
A quick google suggests it does not support OTG; although there is also a thread where someone has installed Linux on to it and suggests that it does support OTG with the right configuration.
Translation: Have fun, Gonads! Try not to let the magic smoke out ;)

;D ;D
Cheers ;D ;D
I take it this OTG charging bit is changed (or if it can be changed) by altering all those zero's and ones in the windows registry :-\
Not that I'm even remotely daft enough to tinker with it ::)
BUT Mini Me has been known to alter the registry on Win 7 (my media centre) to good affect when I was having problems with DTS output through the toss link cable to the AV amp :-\
Anyway, he has more money then me so if he knackers it, well you know what my advise to him will be ................. :-X :D

OTG is still a bit immature, and you have a nasty little tablet (I have a not dissimilar one for diags work), so you're in the land of the gods as to whether or not you can even get OTG to work, let alone OTG charging and media card simultaneously.
Mrs TB and I have gayPads that I exclusively use for going away (she uses hers more often). A 4.5hr flight will take the battery down to about 80% when using headphones, just to give you some comparison between the low end nasty shite and top end stuff.... ....helped of course be Apple's walled garden.
The said, not that I use for video, but none of my Windows tablets kill the battery in sub 2hrs.
Try uninstalling Kodi (an absolute resource hog that will constantly rape the CPU, hence battery), and using a decent video player, see if that improves things. Ideally a player that can exploit any hardware decoder built into the CPU/GPU. Kodi is shit. It always was shit in its XBMC days, and it will always be shit. It has one purpose in life, to allow people, otherwise too stupid, to do things we can't discuss on here.

Kodi is only running when i'm using it for that slightly dodgy purpose which will go unmentioned ;)
If i'm playing music / videos ect, I just let Win 10 use the default program :y
As it happens, this month is a very good month up to now :y :)
It looks like I have myself another job locally for a few months which means there will be no hotel rooms for a few months at least :y ;D
Oh and it pays a little more :D :D
Thanks for the advise :)

If its a modern Win10 Tablet it will probably have a mini HDMI socket, if so just buy the Mini to normal HDMI adaptor or lead and plug it into the Telly in the Hotel Room, whilst charging as normal via USB. ;)

That's not going to help him if his external media is all on a thumb drive, though..

So Charging and Memory Stick on the USB at thye same time, so no MicroSD on the Tablet?? or go back to basics, pick up an old Nokia N8 or E7 slap a 64Gb MicroSD in it with the Films and HDMI lead to the Telly, or Run Plex or Simular on the Tablet and Cast it to a Portable Roku, NowTV Box or Chrome Cast to the Telly. Done both of them when Ive been away and they work well. :y
