"Japanese carmaker Mazda has developed a more efficient petrol engine at a time when the industry steers toward electric vehicles.
It said the compression ignition engine was up to 30% more fuel-efficient than its current engines.
It plans to sell cars with the new engine from 2019."

Yes i saw that. Interesting development.
Mazda have had some interesting engines. A friend had a rotary engine and very good it was.
-
Very good at burning maybe :D
Good design though to cheat the tax class
-
apparently mazda rotary drivers used to signal each other if they ever passed. the number of fingers held up signified how many replacement engines they had fitted
-
Or was it how many gallons of oil needed to top up for the current journey
-
Or how many times this week it wouldn't start.
