Title: ECU reconfigure for transmission type
Post by: omegod on 11 August 2017, 14:06:30
I've seen it mentioned that you can tell the engine ECU which transmission it is attached to, is this just a simple task like a drop box change with a suitable tool ?

You would need full blown tech2, to do such a change. Another option is source ECU from another identical car, which matches your new setup.

If were talking Omegas here, then yea, ECU (+ Transponder and Ring) will work like for like, The Maps are different between Auto and Manual though, not so noticeable on a 2.6 or less, more noticeable on the 3.0/3.2 having said that, if its a 3.2 then not many, if any, 3.2 Manual ECU's around.

2.6 manual ecu works in a 3.2 auto. Not driven as no MoT, but no lights on either ;)

This was a topic on here recently, where posted how my 3.2 auto frazzled the engine ecu due to a battery spike. Got a replacement ecu (just the ecu and not the key or immobilser ring as I wanted to keep the original keys), but unbeknown to me it was from a manual 3.2. The auto electrician reprogrammed it to fit my car, but for some reason (I don't really understand these things), the configuration changing from a manual box to auto was not done in the reprogramming. My car ran but had a few gremlins (can't remember what now as it was a few years ago). I then established the ecu had originally been in a manual, so he reprogrammed it for an auto and its been fine ever since.
