Title: What's with the lines?

Audi have for some while had the S-line,Ford recently introduced the ST-line.Mercedes do an AMG-line,Kia[or is it Hyundai?]do a GT-line and Peugeot I'm told also do a -line model.What is it all of a sudden with these "lines"?Have they run out of names to call them or just run out of imagination?

A thought 'a line' was what women hang  the washing on. :)

It means "looks like but does not go like".

Quite why people would want it this way around is beyond me. I'm more a sleeper type of guy.

VW Passat Sleeper has quite a nice ring to it. One above the Highline but one be
Below the R line ?

These are the sort of lines I used to get at my frequent after school detentions!  ::)

I bet Lord Opti used to get I will not look up girls skirts.  ;D

Manufacturers have always given their trim levels stupid names: how is Aardvark-line any worse than 'merit', 'elite' or 'popular plus'? Or Ford's Ghia or GT-XLR?

I know they've always had model designations[some more stupid/outlandish than the others]I was just wondering why they all now seem to need a .....-line.

Been around since late 90's  :y

Just a way of product line up, targeting various customers with certain types. All of these lines have been standard and out there for a few decades now?
