I know it's my own fault but I want to run two cars. one lpg estate for big things and economy and one elite saloon for toys and fun!
so why does the second car need a separate policy when i can only drive one at a time?
and more importantly why is it gonna cost more than the car did!! GRRR! that's what my current insurer want anyway. £830!!!
Did a quick online compare and have got it to.... only £500 :o :o
anyone got any tips for second car policies?
I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and build up another set of no claims but it makes me cry! also found out 3rd party policy is more expensive than fully comp. adding the fiance does make it cheaper and having a whopping excess does a bit too but i was hoping for more like a hundred quid add on!!
or i can pay £20 each time i want to swap cars ;D

Aye, its infuriating. Also try adding a 2nd person to bring down the price!
There is a real need for a 1 driver, 2+ cars, only drive 1 at a time policy.
The fact you can only use your no claims on 1 policy is rediculous - surely that is a major factor on if you are a risk or not!

yup. i have carefully protected my NCD for over 10 years both by driving and paying premiums (to cover the couple of accidents in the last 6 years!)
but it is indeed silly to have one policy with 10yrs and another with 0. i suggested splitting the difference but they wouldn't have it. also the fact i've driven the Corsa as a named driver for years with no claims at all wasn't counted towards a second policy!
it is true that adding mrs dippy reduced some policies by a couple of hundred but it's still a lot of money!
i even looked at 'trade' policies that do insure one driver and many cars but they start at well over a grand. Apparently getting paid to wash cars occasionally can mean you're a part time trader!!!!!

In a word - Multicar - by Admiral!
talk to the nurse - his insurance went DOWN for a second car ;D

Kit Car policies always take into account NCD on your main car's policy. Sounds to me that you need to avoid the mainstream call centre / internet outfits and explain your needs to a decent broker - or go for a multicar policy.
I think it's a case of "I don't have a button for that" with the mainstream insurers.

try AUTO DIRECT they gave me a policy with norwich union, 2 named drivers, 1 with 3 points. fully comp. £391. includes breakdown & windscreen cover. :y

Yes mate. Admiral multi car... for the Cd 2.0 estate and 3.0 elite I saved quite a bit too.... since the monaro....... Well.... slight hike :P
Deffo worth atry mate... good package too :y

adding a second person on my policy has never brought the price down at all
-
Admiral Multicar seems to be the way to go
I have 2 x V6 Omega's
1st one, The 3.0 Elite Costs me £250 with all my discounts.
2nd one is a 2,5 GLS and costs me £220 with NO NCD, but benefits from all Admirals discounts.
So imagine the GLS Discounts when the NCD starts to kick in, in theory with 65% off will be £130+ cheaper.
If fuel and Cartax carry on as they do, then imagine a Micro car as the main car and the benfits for a 3.2 Elite as a 2nd car. ::) ::) :y

i've had a quick butchers at the multicar thing. looks fab but confusing! think i will have to talk to a real person in the am rather than clicking!!!

more than also do it m8 i have 2 cars and the gave me full non claimes on both so me omega is 210 and vectra 180
-
Also consider that your mileage will be split over both cars, so reduce the annual mileage to suit.

oh the saga continues... More Than won't insure me at all!
i decided that to save time for the moment, rather than go with a new policy (admiral, Bell, etc etc), i'll just transfer my existing one from the saloon to the estate.
but no that's not even simple due to the lpg. The Post Office had to email a dept in Norwich Union who would pass the enquiry on and eventually (like 24 hours later) will tell me if they'll cover an lpg car. for flips sake!! >:(
