Lots of Bull**** with a little piece of Chinese made electronics floating on top.
It might work for you but you can buy the Chinese adapters cheaper (or genuine ones that have paid a royalty to ELM cost a lot more...)
If you want to interrogate the Volvo I suggest you look into the Volvo specific app for your phone and then buy an adapter that other people have successfully used with that app.

£20 is a rip off, £1.99 delivered here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/152675833897 (for andriod, PC ones similar) :y
Mine works fine can read and reset codes and trims. Needs software though not sure if either one has it.

I have a similar one, and its been a godsend.
I've recently have to replace the intercooler, and before that a set of turbo pipes, and each time it has pointed me to the root of the problem. I'm not mechanically minded but it's nice for me to have a wee bit of warning as to whether the locals are ripping me off.
Mine was the best £15 spent for a long time and a free iPhone app, works wonders.

Mini Me got one for his 54 plate Corsa Cdti which also works on my 3.2 Omega.
