Is this legal in this country? Or, is my mate who is about to collect a '16 plate Jaaag getting confused with a remote controlled parking heater?
-
I always understood that it was illegal to vacate or leave unattended any vehicle in which the engine was running. Maybe on your drive on a frosty morning whilst the car warms up would be allowed, but not on the public road.
Ron.

Pretty sure it is illegal to leave a motor vehicle with the engine running on a public highway.
I remember getting a bollocking off a copper for leaving my engine running outside my house while scraping the ice of it >:(
Tried to have a conversation with the arrogant dick all I got was a lecture of how the engine could jump into gear and drive off down the road ::)
I shut up for once :-X
I also no that some of the Clifford cat one alarms have a remote start on them but he installer I used to know used to tell the customer not to use it on the road :-\
Maybe its some sort of petrol / heater auxiliary heater connected to the heater matrix c/w pump ?
-
Cheers guys - that was the conclusion I'd come to as well.
Will see what he reports back when he collects his new wheels.

Humm not so sure, I do know the latest Jags with mobile apps you can start the engine, set the climate etc from your phone.
Lift share buddy's BMW he can remotely unlock and warm, but he can't start it.

An app on your phone that can remotely start your car....What can possibly go wrong? ::)

Having a runlock fitted to the white Omega was very handy... toasty car in the winter, nicely chilled in the summer 8)

Imagine all those cars in airport car parks mysteriously starting up! ;D
-
Yes, leaving a car with the engine running on the highway risks prosecution for the offence of quitting.

Indeed. We know car manufacturers can't make anything secure to save their life so.. why?
Another pointless feature that they can put in the brochure. Only a couple of lines of code to implement it so pretty much for free, yet someone can have all sorts of fun with it. ::)

Pretty certain the XJ from 2016 onwards has the capability to start from fob, without unlocking. Not sure if the feature is only enabled in US markets though.

This is exactly the sort of gimmick which would appeal to lard-arsed burger munching yanks.

Yep, otherwise, often the air con doesn't kick in in time to prevent them breaking into a sweat. ;D
