The campsite in Skegness I use has a club house on site.
3 or 4 nights a week, the place is packed to the rafters with shall we say elderly people who tend to live in the statics 8 months of the year.
Now these people near enough to a man are driving there cars upto the club house, parking up and again to a man getting pretty pissed up then after the bar is shut they will quite happily drive back to there respective statics well and truly over the limit.
Other then been friggin stupid, is this a offence ?
Just to add, the club house is a good 300 yards inside the gates.
The gates are open 24/7 and access to the main road is unrestricted.

If, as you describe, the public have ready access then it is a public place and they commit the offence.
It may, however still be private property even though the site owners leave the gates open. For example, anyone could drive onto your driveway but it is of course, if you own your house and the land around it, private property. The difference being the owners of the site have given the old punters permission to be on that private land.
The definition of public place and whether a road is a road, is forever being tested in the courts in relation to drink drive.

a mate of mine was nicked doing similar, his excuse was he had a damaged leg that week,
it was taken as a public place as the gate was open.

I would say they are committing a DD offence as although the Road, Driveway, Access Road (what ever) is on Private Land, it is still accessible by the Public, I would image you would need to be a very exclusive Private Member or Owner on Private Ground with secure Gates and Fencing and no Public right of way to be considered otherwise.
Did they not change the Rules a few years back about Private Land and Un Taxed Vehicles which gave the DVLA and its Enforcement Team more powers to enter and Clamp or Remove Un taxed Vehicles that were parked on Private Land but were accessible by the Public ie, no locked gates, Barriers or access.

Not my style to grass anybody up BUT these daft old fookers are a problem imo.
No point speaking to the site management because i'm sure that they secretly condone this >:(
There has always been friction between the people on the touring pitch and the static owners.
Its openly known on site that if the static tenants had there way, the touring pitches would kicked out and statics put in there place >:(
The owners / family run a very closed shop.
If anybody on the static side keels over, the site owners are first in with a offer for the van / plot before anybody else can get a look in.
It doesn't help when the site fees are not even half of what the rest of the east coast charges.
To conform with some law or another, there is a official waiting list but those in the know know that nobody gets a chance in the real world >:(
Last weekend, I heard on the grapevine that one old static had became available.
I knew the price, transfer fees, everything ............
Walked into the office to see if I could get the keys / details of the owner and you wouldn't believe the fury in the office :o :o
All I got was the 3rd degree about how I knew, who told me ect and was affectively told to fook off. >:( >:( >:(
Anybody who knows me knows i'm soft as shite and will do most things for most people in real life BUT believe me, I don't take prisoners when i'm wronged and never back off ................ :-X ;)

I have been following this thread to see how long it goes on for.
Now I will say just speak to the police and let them decide the legal technicalities of what is or is not happening. If you think someone, no matter what age, is breaking the law and endangering others speak to the police. Simples! ;)

Might seem like a world away from DD, but what if someone was walking around with a gun and shooting the place up....? If the owners know of this person walking about with a live firearm by their side, the campsite whether it private land or not would surely be breaking the law...? I would say that the old duffers think they know better and can handle a drink and then drive their cars .... It shouldn't be allowed and the campsite management should all be held accountable...
BTW I used to go to a campsite that had a lot of static caravans on site, probably 90% of people who go there either own or have use of a static caravan and it is a very close knit community. If you rock up with a tourer, no matter age it is, they have a tendency to look down on you and think they are better....

Now I will say just speak to the police and let them decide the legal technicalities of what is or is not happening. If you think someone, no matter what age, is breaking the law and endangering others speak to the police. Simples! ;)

For the record, I sent a email to Lincolnshire plod a couple of days ago and received back something that looks like a automated response.
Its a shame but after talks with the wifey, we have decided to look for another site in the area after been on that site for a good 10 years :(
Its a shame but I can only take shit if I can hit back and perfectly honest with you lot, I really cant be arsed with confrontation.
I go away after a hard week to switch off and relax.
I cant relax when I have to control the urge to beet the shit out of someone so 'dangle berries' to it, i'll have a look around for another site.

Sorry but I was surprised that no one had recommended calling the police; it seemed so simple.
