I know I've said it before, but having had snide clever dick replies recently following a request for help on another forum, I would just like to say again what a pleasure it is to read posts on this forum where members help/or are helped. I have just had my cam belt done FOC by James, and other members have parts sent to them to help out.
Thanks again OOF, a great forum.

Amen to that, Shackeng; I couldn't agree more.

I reckon I would have committed harikari a long time ago if it wasn't for those little red happy pills you can buy under the counter from the OOF Shop.

After a quiet summer, things seem to have got busy on here again. :y :y :y

It aint what it was 10 years ago*, but its still better than all the other car forums, which is why we try to leave but always keep coming back.
*This partially a good thing and partially bad. :-X ;D

It's the world in miniature.Allsorts of people from all over the place.Differing faiths/beliefs/ideas,but all doing basically the same thing-trying to muddle through life the best they can.Extending a helping hand, either by actual physical work or offering advice/support.Yes there are the occasional fallings out but these generally few and far between and are eventually resolved or just fizzle out.All in all a great forum to be a part of :y

Yes indeed.
There are only 2 other forums that come close.
One is mk2cav.com, which I used to frequent, but since it's 11 years since I last owned a mk2 cavalier, and so I frequent the other (alot)

Recently we added an additional car to the families fleet, a Low mileage Datsun Puke. Can I find any useful information on any forum anywhere in the world ? No.

And we all know what that means.
It means that they've built millions of the engines, gearboxes and floorpans, and stuck them in Dacia's, Renaults, and Nissans, all over the world, and there's probably a fair chance that every part is available from both dealers and scrap yards at a reasonable price and acceptable quality ?

We must have been very lucky with our Renaults. Never any more than fuel and an annual service. No breakdowns, no major financial outlay and no electrical problems. Maybe ours are the only two in the world that have been reliable. ::)
-
Many years ago I had a Renault 4 that I used (on allowance) in the course of my work, doing about 30k miles plus per year, and it just kept on going - just basic servicing - and it was very good on fuel consumption too.
Mind you, having the rear wheels higher than the front helped there because most of the time it was going downhill! 8)
Ron.

Not the same engine, but my nephew's wife has a 1.4 clit, that she does 30K in a year and I don't think it's EVER been serviced in 4 years.
I think this must be true because she actually thought they would change the oil as part of the MOT.
-
How do they do iot? Especially when my Renault 4 wasn't even fitted with an oil filter!
Actujally, the only "major" issues I had in well over 100k miles were CV joint replacement due to split gaiters and a siezed wiper bearing - big deal!
