Title: One for Zirfield
Post by: Varche on 13 October 2017, 23:04:49
Went on an 11 hour outing today specifically to look at a car.

The interesting thing is that it as the second one we have looked at that had a German life in Leverkusen before being put onto Spainish plates. No sign of any rust.

I was shown the car by a mechanic not empowered to sell or even take payment! Where was the owner/ salesman? In Germany buying more cars. Must be a very lucrative business even after transport and registering onto Spanish plates.

The service history was complete but all documentation was understandably in German.

Hi Varche

If we get in contact by e-mail, I can give you a translation of the documents.

Thanks for the offer. I took German at school and that was enough to get me through the service document.

I dont know whether we will be buying it as got two more to look at.

Insurance companies in the UK charge more for an imported car than the equivalent that started it's career on UK roads.  Worth checking what Spanish insurance companies position on grey imports are.  ;)

Presumably the Spanish change their cars less frequently than że Germans, resulting in both a shortage of decent nearly new stock and a demand/premium for decent 2-4 year old cars...

Ten cars on a transporter is probably 80% profit ;)

That will be about right. Buy lease car from auction. Put right any small faults in workshop, give it a "service" register onto Spanish plates and put it for sale at the high Spanish prices. German cars tend to be better specced too.

We secondhand buyers are faced with a pool of vehicles that when new were sold at the height of the Spanish crisis
