Title: A good result
Post by: biggriffin on 20 October 2017, 07:52:55
About time this was done more often, as there is no need for anybody to have this happen before a journey on a motorway :y.

Indeed. But it does show the value of having a hard shoulder. More people are destined to be "hysterical with fear" thanks to the push for smart motorways, I fear.

Also agree, and I also have serious reservations about so called "Smart" motorways and the lack of a hard shoulder.

I note the comment about her "situation" meaning was she hard-up? She was driving an XC90, so can't be that hard up

She still had to get from Derbyshire to Leeds so there is no excuse after just passing the services, they aren`t that extortionate that she couldn`t afford to stop  :-\

Watching those police shows from Australia it would seem that they've been fining motorists for running out of fuel on the Sydney harbour bridge for quite some time-whether this also applies to their motorway network or not I don't know-so we're a bit behind the times[again]on doing something like this.Unfortunately you can't legislate against peoples stupidity-well not until we get TB for president.

These days hard up = bought lots of shiny on the drip but didn't think to save for a rainy day. ::)

I would say, that I really REALLY resent paying motorway fuel prices  >:(  and only ever do so when I absolutely have no choice, such as when the tank is almost dry  ::)

Agreed, and I've only ever put £5-10 in. But that said, I'd do it over being left high and dry on the motorway!!

When you are spending upwards of 70 quid to fill the tank, an extra fiver doesn,t make much difference really. Especially when you are driving in the dark or in the early hours with kids on board. Perhaps she lets hubby fill the car so doesn,t bother checking she had enough juice anyway.  ???

.

There is no need to use, msa for fuel or food when travelling, there's plenty of supermarket, or suitable places just off the motorway, and most people have a smartphone too, so no reason to use the modern day highway, men.

Drove up to the smoke this weekend. That "lovely" new 4 lane M3 with no hard shoulder was down to 60, 50, then 40 causing quite big holdups. Why? A Tesla stopped in lane 1 - I wonder if they'd run out of leccy having forgotten to pull in at Fleet?

Later on, someone else broken down on the M25. Safely on the hard shoulder and no speed restriction and no queues.

Sensible chap. If you charge them up, they do this: https://electrek.co/2017/03/31/tesla-model-s-fire-manchester-crash/ (https://electrek.co/2017/03/31/tesla-model-s-fire-manchester-crash/)  :o

This is the problem now with the 4 lane M3, any break down, any issue and it's all screwed.

Also they appear to turn on the signs for the whole section between M25 and Jc3, so for mile after mile it says issue/lane closed with sod all issue. They don't stagger the signs to say, in 1.2miles lane 1 is out of action.

It is lovely smooth tarmac though, when empty, it's a silent cruise at 80mph  8)

The problem is, many people haven't even noticed the signs above the hard shoulder yet, let alone do they notice when they indicate that the lane's closed. ::)

Snipers on each gantry culling them would be TB's solution. Vote TB. :y

Oh, hang on. Then there'd be loads of abandoned Ford Focuses blocking the road. :-\
