I've sold my Omega so I won't need to visit OOF anymore.
So its a big big thank you to everyone who makes this forum so brilliant!!!!!!!
Why did I sell? It was too heavy and ponderous, getting 29 mpg despite tootling around, rusty rear wheel arches, suspension needing money spent on it, A/C packed up, rubbish under bonnet access.
Good points - huge load space, reliable (with proper maintenance), fantastic engine that would pull from tickover in top AND scream through the gears.
I've gone back to Mercedes, a C220 CDI Esprit estate.
It's about 400 kg lighter, low and stiff suspension,
great under bonnet access, about 42 mpg, huge mid-range torque.
Bad points - Being a Merc. it was overpriced, it's not very happy doing 30 mph in top let alone tickover, it's a Merc. therefore it WILL break down with hard to trace electronic faults!!!
Once again, thank you all and goodbye.
Wish me luck!!
Eddie.

It wasnt green was it??? ;D
Exactly the same as my merc i sold........
Should do you long service.......
My C220 managed 175K miles before i sold it......had little done to it......bit of stearing bushes.......exchange alternator......blower fan packed up on it.......but apart from that....it didnt go wrong :y
Still on original exhaust when i sold it :y
Sorry it had to go really :'(

You'd be surprised at some of the parts prices. I had a C200 after a couple of Carlton estates and before the Omega. A pair of genuine Merc. front discs were about 60% of the price of Carlton ones and a door mirror shell (not the mechanism) ready painted the correct colour was £23 + vat. Another thing I found was Merc. air and oil filters were slightly cheaper than Halfords.
You got it right about dealer labour charges though, I'll be doing my own mechanicing as much as possible :y

You can still pop in from time to time, as others have said :y after all the site still allows Astra drivers on ::)

No need to leave unless you want too. Got a soft spot for many motors, Mercs included. Migs ponderous? Maybe a little, best throw 'em into the bend/r'bout with TC off, steer on the throttle & hope you come out the right way round!!
I think Migs handle pretty well for a big motor. 8-) :D

No T.D. this one's straight black with 101k miles on it.
It has been about though. I found a Visa receipt in the spare wheel well. It was for €500 or so from a very nice hotel on the south coast of Spain.
Eddie.
PS. Looks like I've got the hang of doing quotes now!!

Bah... Youll be back. Good luck.
Ps Got a contact at benz world, just in case. :y

Perhaps it was just my one. it felt like the suspension was too tall and soft.
Either way, I found myself turning into corners about 10 yards too early until I got the hang of the Merc. :o
