Title: Jim Bean wheel alignment equipment...any good for an Omega.
Post by: Mutha Jugs n Speed on 22 November 2017, 17:51:20
I don't fancy going up to WIM,and was just wondering wether anyone here has had a four wheel alignment done on their Omega with this equipment. I'm interested as I've just had an MOT advisory for slight wear on the inner edges on the front tyres, and as they have done minimal mileage I'm a bit pee'd off at having to replace them so quickly.Any feedback would be much appreciated and iirc didn't someone offer up some alternative settings....could have been Dr G or Chris G :-\

Any full geo equipment (as opposed to just tracking or 4 wheel alignment stuff) will sort out an Omega, as long as you have the right settings...  ...which is NOT the GM factory settings!

I won't quote the WIM settings I have, as I believe that is unfair on WIM.

It was more of a question about the brand of equipment, as I have heard of the Hunter system and I believe Snap On have brought out a system as well....but I have not seen the Jim Bean brand before, and as there is an independent tyre dealer near me that has one I thought I might give it a try, but only if any one has any good feedback to add. :-\

it is basically a snap on system, local garage near me has one and it is very good, :y but then again it depends on the operator knowing what they are doing as well

What make of equipment is used is pretty much irrelevant.

It all depends on whether the guy pressing the buttons has the slightest idea what he's doing, and, sadly, many don't. :(

Don't know if Witham is closer then WIM ? If it is, Tyre Smart will do the job properly for you. :y

Witham is bit far to go,although I do spend a lot of time in that area with the ABS car shows and the Bungalow breakfast meet   but generally on Sundays.....looks like I may well have to shift my lazy arse and take it up to WIM for the best result. :y

Hopefully your rear track rods will loosen..... no amount of heat would shift mine  ::)

Nor mine. I bent them trying to undo them. Had to shell out around £100 for a new pair.  ::)

All mine have been done over the last couple of years and were well greased at the time and, iirc I still have a dozen or so brand new bushed half sections somewhere in one of the sheds,so should be OK on that score. :y

Yeah me too! And completely stripped the middle nut for turning the bar Lol

Carpartsforless.com have them for £60-something a piece. Even ECP can only better this by a tenner a piece.

No odd rear tyre wear for me though and drives nice n true at speed and round town so that's down on the list of bits for me. Though while it was up in't air I did make sure the 18mm nuts were freed so I can replace it. And luckily they were almost loose  :o emptied a pot of grease on them so they're easy for when I do replace them  8)
