When you lift out the boot carpet to reveal the boot metal.... does the colour match that of the car?
I'm currently in to under sealing and covering exposed metal. If this metal matches the star silver of my car then it's going to get a makeover 😎😎😎

It does before they stick all the sound deadening crap to it.

Cheers Albs. I'll have another look but mines just the metal. I have a feeling after 17 years the sound deadening has become one with the carpet.... therefore it's getting blasted with paint!!! 😂😂😂

All the Opel ones built for Europe had double rust protection and triple final paint coat, which afterwards was treated to two final coats of lacquer then rubbed back and polished by hand paying particular attention to any gaps between the wheel arches and the boot pan floor, then an experienced carpet fitter would tailor cut the boot carpet to fit and then hand rub some rare Seal oil into the corners of the carpet to stop the corners from curling up. Some say if you gently lift the corner of the rear carpet of rear seat backs you may see a signed signature of the fitter, something like a hand drawn picture of two boobies with the wording "Hans woz ere!".
On the models sent to the UK, you were lucky if you had a bit of dirty grey felt thrown in the back, which would move around of its own accord when luggage was placed in the back and deform its shape over time, lifting the felt would reveal an untouched bare metal pan which may, if you were lucky, have some paint over spray that may have landed there from being bounced off the rear wing when the sprayed the rear quarter panels. Some also say, they also neglected to paint the inside of the rear arches with an unknown effect that this would have after a few years of our British Weather, "Hans are you sure about this?, Ja will be fine its only for the English", but deep down they knew back then, all them years ago about Britain leaving the EU.

So in short, its the fault of Brexit, but deep down we all already knew that. :)

Well this thread took a wild turn 😂😂😂😂😂
Checked carpet today and the underlay underlay is one with the carpet. It looks like it should be like this though 🤔🤔🤔 any thoughts?
-
Under the carpet is some sound deadening which is stuck to floor, and is a git to remove (long story, don't ask, and accept not to do it).
-
Cheers tb. As mentioned though mine isn't stuck to the boot. It's stuck to the carpet 😂
There's a very small patch still stuck but that'll come off with my wire wheel.

You might need to put some deadening in if it gets removed. I simply used some precisely cut cardboard sheet, which wasn't quite as effective, and was a fair bit thicker.
In my case, a previous owner had spilt a load of diesel in the boot, and had "melted" the deadening.

Brush up is an English idiom that means "to renew one's skill or knowledge in something"
You're welcome :)
