Title: spanner light
Post by: jacko on 13 December 2017, 09:44:28
hi guys,

I will explain the best I can,

yesterday morning - 3 temp car started then instantly cut out, tried to start again wasn't even attempting to fire, after sever attempts over a half hour period it started but was only seemingly running on 3 cylinders on tick over was ok at revs, spanner light was on then after a short drive spanner light went out main engine management light came on, changed coil pack as I had a spare all running smooth again after a test run main engine management light has gone out but spanner light back on , any ideas chaps  ::) ps this is a 2.2 petrol by the way.

When my spanner light came on it was faulty cam sensor.Have you got any codes?

Following a breather/throttle clean, camcover and new plugs, the light on mine has stayed well and truly off 8)

Still occasionally struggles to start though, so a crank sensor is probably somewhere in its future ::)

I'd get the codes read, sounds like cam sensor to me. You will need a code reader to clear the spanner fault  :y

Was there any water/oil in the plugs?

No, you need the codes cleared.

Also worth cleaning throttle body, make sure that is nice and clean. Known them to get stuck randomly, then free up.

Without codes, anything is a guess.
