Title: Crank sensor mod
Post by: Vega on 29 December 2017, 19:25:59
Don't know which jerk thought it was a good idea to put the crank sensor cable behind the exhaust manifold and let us buy again and again a new one for €100 or so because they get fried again by the exhaust manifold.
Looking at different modells I saw that the Vectra Z32SE uses a plug on crank sensor of €25, so I made a adapter cable and put it as far away form the exhaust, behind the steering box and ABS (LHD) to the engine loom.

Interesting mod. :y

My feeling is that, for the original crank sensor, with the original cable routing, heat eventually kills the cable, and, when the wiring is relocated, the connection can break where the cable enters the crank sensor because it is no longer well supported and it can flex here. This sensor conversion might well cover both of those eventualities so please keep us updated on how it performs. :y

Do you happen to know the part number of the sensor you used?

After 5 months I'm still very happy with this mod.  :)
Two Omega's and one Catera are now driving around with this mod.

Now that looks to be a decent mod...and tried and tested. Pity you weren't available to do this 20 years ago. By jove, how that would have helped many of our members !!! :y
