I would like to make a claim for my burn't out Land Rover and err the other 1299 cars it destroyed and the heat demaged multi-story car park. £10-20m might be enough to settle the claim. :o :o :o
Not a phone call I would like to make. ;D ;D ;D

I'm sure where the car park didn't have a sprinkler system, the car and building insurers will be consulting their legal settlement departments. ::) ::) ::)
I expect the Land Rover owner will also be asking: "Will it affect my no claims bonus?" ;D ;D ;D

When I first saw this on the news I wondered if it was an Omega power sounder that'd set it going ::) ;D Thankfully no-one was injured and the horses that were also there were led to safety :)
-
I have a feeling, that there might be a few spurious claims for cars.
-
Given the nature of the event, I’ll bet there’s a few sweaty palms at the NFU mutual this morning!
-
Speaking to someone I know at JLR this morning, apparently JLR are already taking an interest in case there is any blame coming their way, ie recall that needs to be carried out or other. Obviously, they will keep it quiet for obvious reasons for the time being.

Nah not in Liverpool.... :-X

I doubt many of the attendees were from Liverpool.

And, if they were, they’d have got the bus :)

It was some sort of horsey show wasn't it? ???
Apparently there was lots of roast dog! :o A few survived that were left in cars on the top floor. :)

Sigh.....no dogs died....eight were rescued.

Not a dog lover, STEMO?
Aw: a dog will always make you smile.....
Ron.

Everyone on here knows I’m a dog lover.

The sprinkler system doesn't appear to have worked :-\
oh - silly me - did we forget to specify one?.

Yes and all from cars on the top deck. ;)
Of course no one would be so cruel as to leave a dog in a car on the lower decks.... Would they? ::)
-
Four from cars parked on the roof....two from the seventh floor..and two more rescued before the fire service became involved, according to chief fire officer Dan Stephens.

Sorry STEMO, I misunderstood your "sigh" at the thought that no dogs died - mea culpa. :-[
Ron.

I could have made myself clearer, Ron. :)

Listening to the radio this morning (so potentially unreliable) the car was described as an old Mandy, possibly 1980’s if so JLR will be able to wash their hands of the whole affair (and rightly so).
But, it got me thinking, is there a limit on 3rd party liability on car insurance policies, I’ve never bothered to check mine, but I’m guessing if their is one, it’s likely to be a round number, so £1m, £5m or £10m, in any of those events, the policyholder could be in the sticky stuff.
Oh, and if there isn’t a cap, I’ll bet my bottom dollar there will be one on future policies.
-
I would imagine the road traffic act or some other legislation specifies the minimum level of 3rd party cover.
Not sure about motor insurance, but my glider insurance certainly has a limit to the 3rd party liability and the legal minimum is based on the maximum take-off weight.

What the heck is this? I come here to see people flouncing off, not a reasonable end to a small misunderstanding! Do better, you two :P ;D
maximum take-off weight.
I appear to be about 14lb further away from that MTOW after Christmas :-X ;D

You're not the only one. :y

Aaron, there was no "flounce", nor any animosity; just a mis-reading on my part, which you in turn mis-interpreted!
All is peace and light, well set for the New Year..... :y
Ron.

Which I assume also equates to the size of crater created on impact?

Drive to Barnsleywakefield and torch his house, Ron.

Yep, or the size of the debris field if you hit harder ground.
Either way, it pays to give anything really expensive a wide berth!
-
Just checked and my minimum is GBP 790,500 for MTOM of 472 kg.

I think it's actually covered for significantly more!

Dr. Opti, why are you also imagining that there has been aggro? There has not!
The pity with text messages is that there's no way of displaying tone of voice or reading humour into posts.
In the same vein, I hope that Lincs Robert realises that and returns soon?
Ron.

That's why I said you both needed to try harder.. such amicable ends to minor misunderstandings, it's just not the OOF way! ;)

Nothing to do with me :-X

Having been in a not massively dissimilar situation (my garage door landing on the roof of a car on the drive over the road), in accidents like this, there is no 3rd party liability - everybody impacted has to claim off their own insurance, and accept the fact they will be out of pocket on excess and NCD/increased risk.
I'm not saying its right or fair, but them be the rules...
-
So they weren't able to claim off your house insurance ? ??? :o
-

Nope. Nor was I for the damage to my vehicles (fortunately only 2 of mine were impacted).
-
Presumably they would have been perfectly entitled to sue you personally, if they were so inclined ?

Sue for what? Thats the point ;).
You cannot be held accountable for something that is legally not your fault. Legally, in this case, including neglegence, willful and so on.

I’m glad my omega wasn’t there!
