I needed to send my birth & marriage certificate to an insurance company so I ordered copies for me to pick up a couple of hours later. when I arrived at the registrars office & within in minutes it became obvious they wasn't ready. the excuse was the person that had been doing them was on a break. anyway in a way of apology they handed me hand scripted copies (instead of type written ) thanking me for my patience. then she said I hope your father will appreciate them . I said they are mine my dad died 34 yrs ago. :)

Count yourself lucky you dont live in Spain. The beuaracrats here randomly ask for all sorts of documents. Expats take to carrying copies of everything when they go to achieve the simplest of tasks. God bless nly knows where all the paper copies are stored.
Maybe the registrar officeis the one on the tv drama................

it was something to do with when I was a seaman. I had to send proof of sea service e.g discharge books. I once was on a tanker that sent out a mayday during storm force weather. to claim salvage the dutch sea-going tug towed us from Durban to Bonborough dock , Birkenhead & wouldn't let the tow-rope go until the ship was securely to the wharf. the insurers because it in south African waters that the tug towed us from wouldn't pay out salvage apparently arguing the ship was classed as Not ,"not under command " so only wanted to pay towage. I don't exactly know the ins & outs but apparently it deems the crew are entitled to a few bob. I had to prove who I am to claim, the details had to match up to when I signed on. next of kin etc
