Title: Indian buffet (or excellent restaurant) in TBland?
Post by: GastronomicKleptomaniac on 06 January 2018, 19:30:13
Visiting Northampton (for reasons undisclosed in case MrsGK reads this) next weekend. Looking for a nice Indian buffet or restaurant within half an hour of a certain well known race circuit. Locals, advice? :D

(Her birthday tradition is to go to Cosmo, but I don't think there's one nearby...)

I guess he's currently at Tiffins, or he'd have answered by now. ;D

OP - there are a lot of (what used to be) decent Indians on the road into town, between Hobbycraft and Maplins.  I've not personally used any for a few years, as my mate from that area moved to Milton Keynes.

Obviously, if you get as far as Brakkers, Tiffins is the best all-rounder, Spice Lounge also very good, but Tiffins does the best crisp course. Chilli & Pepper isn't bad either, more of quantity over quality though.

I can recommend in Northampton if you're coming to the town itself. Though out as far as TB I've no idea.

A Tiffins has opened up in Swindon. I went there with some neighbours a week ago. I thought it very good tbh, ate far too much as did my neighbours  ::) One of my neighbours who came with us is Asian, he criticised some of meats, but thought the curries were good  :y But then, as his wife cooks him curries, I wasn't surprised by his criticism. He did say he would go back tho  ;)
And for £14 to stuff yer face...you carnt grumble at that   :)

That is the arse end of nowhere I'm afraid, so reckon you'll be looking be looking at a 4m taxi trip each way, to get you near the centre :)

Mind you, I'm in the back end of nowhere this week, a couple of miles north of Woodbridge, with nothing walkable around.  I suppose that's how the skin starts growing between the fingers and toes, and you start eyeing up mummy sister.

So junction 15 is the "grange park" end of the a45. It's actually very close to the town centre. Come off the j15 and take the a45 to Northampton. You'll see a turn off at the Bedford Road roundabout and you'll be in town.

There is a lot of choice.

But I would go the Tamarind, Merlins or Star of India.  Parking for the first two is at the back of the spread eagle pub which is next door. Star of India park in the big car park on the race course dead opposite

That would just encourage him... Besides, do you know how much of an inconvenience it is when someone jumps off the bridge? ::) :D

I can't help as I haven't actually had an Indian since I moved here ;D but I've noted those for future reference :D

I'm quite partial to Ginza myself (sushi) and want to try Sakura (teppenyaki).. which also don't help you at all ;D

Sadly, due to trying to do 5 days work in 3 days, it was never going to work timewise this time  :'(

This hotel isn't too bad, so might use again next time, which could open some opportunities :y
