For those interested in pictures stories from London's East End yesteryear this is an interesting website.

An excellent site. Thanks Rods. :y
I always intended to visit the Whitechapel bell foundry , but never got around to it before it closed / moved elsewhere. :(
-
Yes, an excellent find Rod :y :y :y
It is so good to see Tom Flowers being mentioned along with his incredible machine, Colossus, which shows how much good has come out of that part of London, the home of my mother's side of the family. 8) 8)
The crime section is fascinating, and covers the main events such as the Jack The Ripper murders of 1888. That is, along with the Cray Twins, the bad that came out of the Eastend.

I had 9 years working in an old fashioned foundry, so it would have ben a bit of a busmans holiday for me, but an enjoyable one I imagine. Considering the history of the place, I think it should have been preserved as a working museum.

That didn't align with the owner's need to sell the building as their retirement plan.
And most of the workshop space and foundry was recent, unlike the 300 year old shop front.
The important thing is that the bell forms(and Whitechapel had acquired many of the other defunct founders forms) were bought by the only remaining bellfounders in the country.

At least the bell founding trade can carry on then. It would be a shame if we ended up importing them all from the far east. :y

A result yet again of typing too quickly ahead of my brain! Or maybe it is the affect of typing Cray Kray that scares me! ;D ;D ;)
