Well done this lady bus driver. She did not panic.....unlike the van driver who filmed it ;D
https://youtu.be/fq3xXdcZacc
-
saw that and the interview with her a few moments ago. What was the Dylan trying to do in the car?
-
Clearly the problem was caused by the dingleberry unable to drive up a straight road, but I do have to wonder why the bus was travelling as fast as it appeared to be in those conditions..

It was Scotland, that's just everyday snow, nothing special.

Saw that on the news last night... good job it wasn't smellivision going by the van drivers reaction. (I wonder if he reversed into the vehicle behind in his panic :-\) Very good recovery from a possibly self inflicted situation... Bus could have been traveling a touch slower, but he clearly didn't panic. 8) Or brake. ;D

Fair dos :y
hadn't actually noticed tbh, was quite distracted by the big squeaking mouse behind the camera ::)

It wasn't some form of 'superhuman' skill by the girlie bus driver.
She simply closed her eyes and yanked at the wheel. Pure luck. :)

That seems to be what new drivers are taught now: snatch top gear as soon as you can, and hope for the best.

I was awaiting a thread about this, that has been on TV a few times now.
As STEMO correctly stated in his opening post, this was a very good expert LADY bus driver that did everything by the book; she did not brake, she just delicately steered the bus around the obstacle (car) and did not panic. She saved many people from potential injury and demonstrated all the skills of an advanced driver of a PSV. She is to be applauded, and as STEMO already has, men should recognise that without going into "all boys together" mode with all the usual lady driver jokes!
From the film she is travelling at about 30 mph, which should be acceptable on such a stretch of straight road, and in fact, as proof, if she had been going any faster she would have lost control once she steered through. 8) 8) 8) :y
-
I might be in the minority but I feel that the driver was going too fast for the conditions. I dont think she reacted late, she had obviously seen the car but was trying to figure out what the heck the muppet in the mini was doing.
She pulled off a great piece of driving to avoid a collision though but the whole thing could have been avoided with the correct application of speed to the conditions.
-
Well.....I think she did really well and I take my hat off to her.....if only for staying calm.

I think she did well, she missed the car and that's the important bit. :y
..... she did not brake, she just delicately steered the bus around the obstacle (car) and did not panic.......
When interviewed she said she did brake. She came off the brake when the bus slewed, which thankfully put her in a perfect line to avoid everyone, which can clearly be seen on the footage. She admits that luck was on her side, and to be honest we all need a bit of luck in these situations.
Personally I think it matters not one jot, she avoided a collision by whatever means so the rest is irrelevant. Without the presence of the dash cam footage we wouldn't even be able to scrutinise.
I'm with STEMO, I think she did well. It was actually a very graceful slide, I'd have been well chuffed if it was me. ;D

You don't know she stayed calm. She was probably pissing her pants! ;D
Hats off to her though! :y
-
Nah....just luck.
....and since when did it become legal for girls to drive anything larger than a Hillman Imp? :-\
-
They can, provided it is pink; failing that, they get sent straight back to the kitchen!
Ron.
-
She did well as the aim in such situations is to safely navigate things that will hurt. :y :y :y I know when my brother got his PSV it included a session on a skid pad in a bus.

Even Saudi is going soft by allowing women to drive.....albeit only with the permission of their husband. :-\
-
If she had been reading the road ahead and driving accordingly, she would never have got herself into the situation in the first place.
It was well held though. The split second from checking make up in the mirror to reacting to what she suddenly saw is a short space of time. :D
-

Looks like a "German Mini" to me - were you expecting it to have a functional seat-steering-wheel interface or just a clueless hipster/fashion victim? :D
-
According to the Beeb ... the mini (?) was attempting a U-turn !!!! didn't do a very good job of that then !!! :)
methinks the girl done good .. :)
-
Just seen her on TV. Quite attractive for a girl doing a butch job. :y
-
I suppose the argument could be made that she was driving too fast for the conditions-difficult to tell for sure-but even so she did well to get out of it.Yes a certain amount of luck to be sure, but in a situation such as that a bit of luck does no harm, skill and training also played their part.Well done her :y
-
Looks to me like she had the presence of mind to come off the brakes just when it mattered. Could she do that every time? Who knows, but the fact that she didn't freeze with wheels locked as the majority of drivers would puts her well above the average, where she should be given that she's a PSV driver. :y
-
We've all been there I would think , she was very lucky that's all it boils down to.
-
Saw it on the news last night (as I don't do gay tube clips), and well held.
But like airline pilots are trained for the unexpected, aren't bus drivers trained on skidpans, so this becomes 2nd nature?
Clearly the MINI driver was a first class idiot, but we knew that, because they were stupid enough to buy a fashion accessory.
And I'm with Opti - most of the "female" (in the loose sense) bus drivers I've met are big old diesel dykes, whereas this chick was almost worth a squirt.
-
Eloquently articulated, as always. ;)

Yes Lizzie you are, as they are all mouth and no trousers.
Although, thinking about it, that might not be an appropriate analogy ::)

Is that true Oopti? I have been wondering where Kate is, plus others. It is a great shame if I am the only one, but maybe some would say it is a shame I am still here!! :o :o ;D ;D ;D :-* :-* ;)
-
Not at all, Lizzie; we need you ladies to patronise and take the Michael Bliss out of.
Actually, Kate popped up briefly a few weeks ago and there was a one-off appearance od Savannah about that time, too.
Ron.

Jag driver?..........Not lately with all the fooking snow, Sir Tig. Call me a nancy boy if you like but 500+ BHP two wheel drive and snow can be quite 'buttock clenching' ;)
......anyway, the mighty Signum attracts more women. :P :P

Well if you will lower yourself to the sort that are impressed by a Signum..... :D
-
Ah yes, the economy Mumsy bus ;D
-
I like the Signum because nobody gives it a first look never mind a second look.
In 2.8 V6 form it has surprised a few cocky owners of 3 series BMW, along with the odd Audi. :y
Great for taking rubbish the tip as well.

Exactly what sort of woman is attracted to the Ford titty X?..... :D

The slightly domineering type without badge issues :-\

Of course women are attracted to your Signum.........it's pink :D ;D

Pink....how very dare you. Pomegranite red if you don't mind. ;)
Another thing. In 2.8 V6 form it is rare........therefore desirable to the motoring enthusiast. :)

A rose by any other name etc. ;D
