Edit - should be easy enough if sharing a flat with a few others.  :y

How long does he intend to work in the area? A while I would have thought given wealth of jobs around there. I’d be tempted to commute from home if I was him(if he is allowed  ;D)pack huge amounts of that rent money away for a flat deposit.  :y

Never mind the Swede for a second... Surely £1,000 a week for effectively a room with use of the bathroom/kitchen is a typo :o

That budget would by a nice place in the home counties and a hotel room for four nights in Lundun.

Commute, Bedford is hardly very far from Lunnun. :y

I can't see where the £1k a week comes from, maybe edited out now. But I know that about £1,100 pcm gets a nice one bed new build flat in Enfield, North London (Blonde Swedish FEMALE not included) . Not exactly next to Chiswick though.

I take it you mean a Month, if so then forget Chelsea, Knightsbrdge area, Room in a House / Flat share, Chiswick, Hamersmith, Putney area about 700 to 1K, Batersea & Wandsworth way about 650 to 900, venture out quiet a bit you could probably push a small Studio for 1k or just over.

Other considerations is Parking, which is now a joke in London, does he need a Car for Work?, if so somewhere toi Park during the Day at Work, or are we talking about Public Transport for the whole exercise.

Commuting from Bedfordshire to Central London every day would be a killer, in fact Bedfordshire to the bottom of the M1 is not so much the problem its the rest of it.

If its Short Term or to get His feet under the table and the Bed is only needed Mon to Thurs Eves, then dont rule out Hotel, Lodge, Guest House etc especially if booked 4 days a week / 1 month in advance, could be some deals to be had there.

When I had a contract in Hemel Hempstead, I rented a double room, with sole use of family bathroom, sharing the kitchen and lounge with the owner. for £550 a month. This was the MOST expensive I could find, because it was the nicest, and NOT a HMO sharing with 7 x 22 year old party animals.  Typically they were £400 to £450.  The queue of people getting the train into london was Massive.

At the same time my son was renting a flat with another student in Mill Hill.  £1300 plus bills. There were 2 double rooms, one with ensuite, and a big bathroom, a lounge dining room, and a tiny kitchen. I suggested he could rent the lounge out for £800 a month, but they preferred having a lounge.

I worked with a guy who was a Mech Eng Student at City University, in the 80's and in his final year he and 11 other Mech Eng students rented a pent-house with 3 bed rooms, in Chelsea, and put bunk beds in.  Just so they could live in that area.  Said if you divide the rent on a £2400 a month (in the 80's) by 12, it's only £50 a week each. which makes the £25 a week in the arse end of Coventry that I paid in the 80's for a 12 foot by 5.5 foot room, look a bargain.

Joking and frivolities aside . . . . .

I moved from London about three years ago. My son stayed. At an early stage a decision has to be made, stay in London or not. At about age 29 my mates were moving from London to nice 3 bed semis in the midlands or wherever. Mrs and I stuck with London, bought a shithole flat at 16.5% interest rate and 5% deposit, and a few property moves and years later reaped the benefits.

I have a belief. If you have work in London, stick with it and buy as soon as possible ! And. . . don't be too picky about what you buy. Even if you buy a shithole, it's still better that shovelling cash into a landlords bank account every month and owning nothing at all. Oh shock horror, property prices have gone down and I'm in negative equity. Probably still cheaper than paying rent.

23 is probably a bit young to be thinking about such things, so still hold out for the flatshare with the Swedish blonde. BUT the earlier the better.

Bedford line is fast (45 mins), no problems to commute. For 3 years I commuted to Central London from Brackley.

20 min drive to Bicester.
1hr-15 ish on the train
20 min tube ride.
10 mins walk.

Each way, everyday.

It’s expensive, long commute, but allows you to save if you can live at home. Bought my flat in Zone 2, about a year after starting at Sky. Again, drove from Brackley.

I’d seriously recommend it, as so many of my work mates still rent in their mid 30s and still way off a deposit.

Its Thameslink, and they tell more lies than Chiltern.

Every time I've used Thameslink from Snorbs to London its taken nearly 45mins, so god knows how they can even begin to claim 45mins from Bedford....

The thing is this much more than "computability". If I was 23 I'd want to be actually in London with a London lifestyle. yes, I know many (or most) here will wonder why anyone would want to do that, but when you're YOUNG, you probably would.

Even when I was young, I detested that shithole with a passion - but it made my home town, Aylesbury, look like paradise ;D

As the years pass, my dislikes of Londonium have increase, as expected, with age.

Ive pretty much always worked in London, apart from a few Herts and Essex Jobs and a Major one that took me all over the UK for quiet a few Years. It used to be a fanatasitc place to work and breath and the Night Life was out of this World, unfortunity having to work in the place again for the last 10 years I detest the Traveling in and out of it and for me now the Place seems like the biggest Shite Hole on the Planet.  :'(
