When it warms up outside I'm going to be changing the cam-cover gaskets on my V6, I can see I have an external leak on the passenger side, albeit not a biggie.
Couple of questions if I may please -
1) Genuine GM, is this still the recommendation for gaskets? If not, which ones are folk using and where are they from? Cost isn't an issue, I only want to do the job once.
2) The breathers will need a thorough clean, and I anticipate the breather bridge seal will break when the bridge is removed. Where can these seals be obtained? Dealers are not doing them and I can't find anything online!

Just to clarify, the car in question is "NXR" - a black beauty forum owned for many years, just approaching 220,000 miles :y

I believe the breather bridge seals are available from the states

I would probably try and leave it undisturbed, TBH. If you take the plenum off you can squirt plenty of carb cleaner, air, etc. into the plastic breather box from the rear. It's only if you have to poke crud out of the holes that you need remove it.

Got a breather bridge seal from autovaux

Cheers :y

Hmm. Bumping for recommendations on cam cover gaskets as I noticed the nearside engine block is a bit damp when changing the oil. ::)

I used this about (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAM-ROCKER-COVER-GASKET-SET-CALIBRA-CAVALIER-OMEGA-SINTRA-2-5-3-0-V6-24V-HOLDEN/130549416770?hash=item1e655a0342:g:hW4AAOxyuCJRe3eZ) 3 years ago. Outlasted the rest of the car. Anyway I had no complaints.
Some members say the GM original seals are the only way to go. It seem to me that it's just as important to get the mating surfaces thoroughly cleaned of old sealant. And to use the good GM sealant (black) 90485251. The original green sealant is part of the problem.

Its always been black on those seals, green is for somewhere else

Might not be green, can't remember for sure. However the Vauxhall listed sealer is/was 90542114 (GM kat 15-03-170). It's apparently still available and it's also specified in the Haynes manual. That sealer, whatever colour it is, works but goes hard and crystallises over time and then the seals fail again, even if the seals are genuine Vaux.
Opinion seems to be unanimous that the black sealer 90485251 (GM kat 15-03-295) works better.

It always was black. Never the grey or the green.

Pretty sure the grey is where water is involved - cooler plate etc.

Grey is indeed used on oil cooler cover. Also works well on sump if you CBA to get a gasket ::)

Not all sumps had gaskets from new...
