Title: Health and safety (yet again)
Post by: Debs. on 14 August 2008, 11:15:17
Yet again, the beast that is "Health and Safety" rises-up, to protect this innocent and vulnerable World from itself!
Generations of a safe and happy family-tradition.....gone with one clipboard! >:(

Why dont we just tear down all of our landmarks, and wait, better yet, sell the buildings and all the rights and traditions to the highest bidder, therefore assisting with our country's crippling debts and letting the british isles start afresh with creating new, H&S friendly traditions.

Rant over. ;)

Look on the bright side.

1.The old guy gets to retire early on a handsome pension.

2.health and safety man gets a handsome pay increase from the local authority for doing such a good job and meeting his objectives

3. A new clock is bought for pence from the local Ratners and provides wealth to its maker in China.

4. Handsome installion fee paid for the new clock to be put in and the old one to be scrapped. Town grinds to a halt while the extensive safety barriers around the scaffolding are put in place. Lots of overtime paid out.

5 I buy the old one for its scrap value and put it in store.

6. In 50 years the council comes to its senses and buys it back off me for a handsome profit and the BBC does an interview with the council leader who says it is really fantastic to get rid of the cheap Chinese clock (which kept perfect time) and replace it with the original piece of engineering. Heritage and all that.

7 Advert placed in local paper for semi retired person to wind clock. David Rees's grandson applies and gets the job, which now pays 800 euros a week with inflation, to keep the family tradition going.  ;D  ;D ;D

What about the true test as to whether it is dangerous or not - has any of his ancestors had an accident in the clock winding area during the 150 year tradition.......

Think I'll train to be an HSE...  seems like a good job preventing fun and common sense.

Right you lot on this forum....

Do not look at your monitors for more than 10 mins.

Use each hand in turn for typing 15 mins max each in any one day.

Backs up straight, one deep breath per every 30 shallow breaths.

There you are, I'm qualified already.... :-X

I completely agree. Self perpetuating nonsense. HSE should have been reduced to maintaining an even keel somewhen in the '80s. Local councils are no better in being totally bereft of common sense in applying the rules.

The worst bit is, it's us that vote and pay tax that employ them!
