It's reported that-latest figure I saw-5 people have died from E-Coli in America after contracting it from eating Romaine lettuce :o So much for avoiding greasy burgers and eating "healthy" rabbit food instead :-X

There was a case a couple of years back here. That too was Romaine lettuce. Washed in sewage contaminated water. About ten years ago we went and had a wander around inside the seas of plastic greenhouses. There were families of immigrant, no doubt then undocumented, workers living in shanties in the acres and acres of greenhouses. Where did their sewage go? Ever since we wash all salad stuff. If you have a spare minute have a look at Adra , Almeria province in Spain on Google earth. That is on the outskirts of the sea of greenhouses, the size of Leicestershire - well cheap plastic things.

I did. That's remarkable. As you say just a vast expance of plastic greenhouses
I have to say, even when a pack says "washed ready to eat" I don't I rinse it first.

Still remember as a child going up the garden snapping a stick of rhubarb off the plant snapping the leaf off it,giving it a quick wipe down with a[probably]grubby hand and then sitting about dipping said stick of rhubarb in a piece of paper with sugar on it,but back then we used to go out climbing trees and such like,if you fell out of it you got to learn it hurt but that's life experience for you,no blame no claim just get on and deal with it.

This could lead to even more dangerous activities like 'playing conkers' :)

Yes we did that too and a whole lot more it was a great childhood and not once do I recall us complaining we were bored and had nothing to do.On the contrary we never seemed to have enough time to fit in all we wanted to do before being told it was bed time

Ah yes, and post-war London with its bombed sites were a great adventure playground. And didn't school summer holidays end too soon? :(

All holidays end too soon where time is speeded up between x2 and x10 depending on how exciting the things are that you do. :-\

During the school hols i only used to go back home for something to eat. The sun always seemed to be shining too. :D
