Title: Loctite
Post by: Entwood on 25 June 2018, 20:23:15
The bottle of locktite that, as if by magic, left the air force at exactly the same time that I did has finally run out :(

It was the 648 variant, and I just wondered if the knowledgeable folk on the forum would recommend another bottle of 648 or is some other variant considered better ?? It is used 99% of the time as a thread locking agent on bolts, and occasionally as a "backup" on self tappers.

Any thoughts gratefully appreciated   :y :y

It appears to be readily available, albeit at a price...

If you're happy with it, then no reason not get some more imho ;)

Done a little reading .. and decided that the 243 variant might be more suitable ..price is not dissimilar to the 648 one .... if you keep away from the chinese clones, so gone for a reputable dealer in UK rather than risk the bay of fleas .. where all the images have chinese writing !!!  :)

Law of sod will now apply and the advice from an expert will be different !! Ah well .. :)

Red loctite  has given me some problems over the years  ::)
It`s fine if you want to permantely lock bolts into place with this thermoset plastic
It`s when ppl use the stuff on a steel bolt locating into an alloy casting  >:(
Saying that I once partially stripped a spark plug thread in an alloy head & red loctite permantely fixed the new plug in place for ever  ;D

Blue loctite is more user friendly, it`s semi-permanent & you won`t need heat to break the seal.
