Title: 3.2 compression results
Post by: Ulap31 on 21 July 2018, 14:00:59
Hi all,
As most will remember had a lot of issues which turned out to be Head Gaskets gone.
It’s a 3.2 auto elite estate on a 52 plate.
It’s still not right and I’m getting 15-16 miles to the gallon.
Contacted serek who advised compression test so here goes.
Before new gaskets readings.
Num 1 8.0.bar 115 psi
Num 2 8.2 bar 120 psi
Num 3 7.5 bar 110 psi
Num 4 7.0 bar 100 psi
Num 5 11. bar 160 psi
Num 6 13. bar 190 psi

New head gaskets and 6,000 miles later

Num 1 14.5 bar 210 psi
Num 2 14.0 bar 200 psi
Num 3 13.5 bar 195 psi
Num 4 14.5 bar 210 psi
Num 5 13.5 bar 195 psi
Num 6 13.0 bar 190 psi
Any ideas would be appreciated as thinking of selling it as patience is running out now.

check for any stored fault codes
check or have checked live data to see what the ECU and sensors are doing
that is what i would try

Those readings are fine , it’s something else

Is the cam belt set up properly?

Good to see you back James. Cambelt been checked.

A quick look in the maintenance guide seems to show [if I'm reading them right] 130 as a fault with 02 sensor bank 1 sensor 1 and 161 as 02 sensor bank 2 sensor 2. others on here will obviously know much better than I do.HTH :y

Those codes make no sense.

Should be four digits.

Sorry the codes do start with a zero so read 0161,0161,0130
Does this mean new sensors and hopefully will resolve the problems with fuel economy.

It's worth checking the plugs on the lambdas to check they are plugged in and no water ingress, poor connection (because your engine has been apart for gaskets)
but if you have to replace the lambdas ,to resolve the issue , at least you should improve MPG to 24+  :-\ saving on petrol
and lambdas only last 80k  before reading out of spec if i remember correctly
live data would be helpful but the codes and poor MPG and poor running all point to duff lambdas

0131 is bank 1 sensor 1 not working correctly or not at all and 0161 is bank 2 sensor 2 heater circuit fault.
As Dave says check connections first and if necessary you can check continuity of sensor heater through white wires /compare with other sensors.if req
Ive just checked mine for you and it reads 9.8 ohms.
Personally if no obvious faults found I would confirm by swapping your sensors over and if you do find they are definately faulty would it be worth fitting the two new ones pre-cat and having the older ones post-cat.(personal preference or replace all 4!  )
I assume yours has either had the post-cat location mod or you have v good pre-cats as lots of later v6 have the emissions code

Think the sensors are probably original from when the car was built and it’s now done 111000 miles. Did replace one as when I got the sensors moved one was damaged trying to remove it
Will try to get reading and some live data to compare.q
