Finally, after being screwed up left right and centre....we are finally moving to Brackley on August 10th.
I cannot believe the trivial shite coming out from first time buyers and solicitors. Sold this place (stc) in April !!!!
We have exchanged a week later than were told, consequently the five moving companies we had quotes from can't now do the date!!!! Have found one with a vacancy, coming tomorrow to give a quote.
So Brakkers here we come
-
Nice one, Tony. Just all the packing and unpacking now ;D
-
Good luck. Always stressful moving. Great opportunity to thin possessions out though :y
-
All the best with the move Tony. :y
-
Thanks chaps. Steve....we have been packed for weeks now. so its just a few bibs and bobs now. Chris has packed all the boxes so they are not too heavy, in case TB came round to help ;D
Its a shame my son and son in law can't do the moving for us, I would have given them £500 each, but neither know where they will be on the day. S-I-L drives big lorries with trailers attached, and my son will probably be abroad. So, because of my problems with the dislocated shoulder and (they have now decided, broken) I can't lift heavy weights. So we have to have a removal company.
Still, glad we are nearly there, and the stress levels are dropping.
So...once we are established, me and Chris will be searching to see if we can find a venue to hold a meet!!!!!! :y
-
Not moved for 8 years now, used to always be on the move, 28 times in 25 years
-
Removal company bit was the hardest, I found, too - they are all booked up weeks in advance, but you can't get a completion date out of the solicitors until 8 hours before it happens >:( >:( I'm sure the removal companies make a tidy profit out of cancellation fees..
Anyway - good luck with the move!
-
Good luck :y
If you get stuck, I can ask if I can borrow a 26 toner from work... :D

Why? Has he got a massive printer? ;D

I only said that I could read... Spelling however... :D

Ha ! I moved four years ago and still have full boxes piled up in the garage. My Mrs is more of a magpie (hoarder) than I am !
Well done Tony ! Hope the actual move goes ok :y
-
Mrs TB and I were wondering if you'd moved yet. But as the house prices haven't crashed here, we assumed you hadn't. Or at least your reputation didn't precede you :P
The dates all screwed up last time we moved (this place was new build, and wasn't ready in time). We just hired a lorry, and moved ourselves. Saved I fikkin fortune as well.... ...esp as we had to move twice.
-
Moving near to TB.
Is this wise? :)
-
Moving near to TB.
About 800yrds. Defo "within range" if Mrs TB will let me do it again....

Now your friend Kim officially doesn't have any testing facilities, maybe he will need you to test one for him. ::) :o :o :o

Just in time for Northamptonshire council to cut their services to the barest minimum they can legally get away with :D :D Seriously though I hope all goes well now it's finally happening :y
-
TBH I'll be amazed if anyone noticed a difference. The place is a but like Salford, but without the rustic charm :o

Yes, call me a cynic, but if the council is bankrupt, how come the County Council and the local Council have each managed to spend millions on relocating to their respective new offices (on the back of comments they need more space to employ more wasters staff)

I recall the first time I went to Salford (for work - used to have a bunch of servers up there, and that day we were dropping off a ProLiant 5500 Citrix server), and I remember driving up Chappel Lane (I think?) and most of the buildings were boarded up and burnt out :o
I still have a single pesky server up there, so still have to go occasionally when the remote access dies. They have spent a lot of money in the last 15yrs or so, and that same drive down that road is now most pleasant, on a nice sunny day, past the university ::)
-
Congrats on the move :y
I'm still trying to get off the ground with our house move. :)

All I can say Tunnie, is...do you have to move. No chance of extensions, etc. Knowing what I know now, I would never have let her talk me into it. Mind you, the big boost in finances will be welcomed. However, couple that with the stress, etc, etc, etc, and after living here for 45 years, is the cash worth it. I'll probably turn my toes up long before it all gets spent. ;D

Spend some of it of a decent car, Tony. A man of your means shouldn't be travelling in an ancient Vauxhall. ;D

Keep up at the back, Steve....I am also driving an almost new Mazda 6 !!!!!

It's not my age, I'm just very busy ;D

We want a bigger place and walking distance to schools, I have considered extending but hugely put off by what appears to be a whole industry of idiots.
I must have rung 20+ builders, most did not answer. Few that did answer missed their appointments, one called day before to cancel saying they would be in contact. Never did get back to me.
Yet these people want £40/50/60k for their work. :(

We moved 4 years ago with a significant cash difference (London vs Wales). You'd be amazed how quickly you can get through it, and I'm not a flash git ???

You're doing it wrong, Tunnie - unless you're going to buy Mrs T a nice Range Rover to do the 300yd drive to the school? ;D ;D

I had the same experience recently trying to get quotes for having a driveway laid - three places all said "I'll be 'round tomorrow to quote", not one turned up, not one phoned back to apologies and not one am I going to chase.. trouble is, they know that if you really want the work doing, you will bend over backward to chase them to quote, then chase them when they fail to turn up to do the job, then chase them to finish the job... etc, and as far as I can tell, they have work coming out of their ears at the moment, so don't really care what business they lose.
Which reminds me I need to email someone back that I was meant to do last week :-X :-X ;D ;D

Same kind of thing with the skip I got on Saturday morning. They turned up pronto to get their mitts on my £140. When I rang them this morning to tell them it was ready to collect, they said they'd do it when they had another drop in the area. Meanwhile, I've got nowhere to park without upsetting one of the neighbours.
-
You paid them before they came to collect it ? You've been out of Liverpool too long fella. ;D
-
Best of luck with the move mate , have to say I don't envy you at all :(

Eating my words here. The skip was picked two hours after I rang :y

Well....it all kicked off here last night. We had a request from our buyers to come today at 11.30am with a builder to plan alterations. Anyway, as I said, last night it kicked off...the bath hot water feed pipe let go, and sent water down through the dining room ceiling and walls. Drained the tank out and stopped the flow. Put heaters on, and by 6.00am today, it had just left stains across the ceiling and down the walls. So off to B & Q at 7.00am for some Zinsser B.I.N sealer. Dries in 15 minutes that stuff, so a couple of coats on. Then 9.30am Emulsion the ceiling and walls. Put the buyers off until 1.30pm. Mate came and renewed the bath pipework. 12.15, tested all ok, put the bath panel ad bits back, finishes 12.45.
I am going to shout this but I AIN'T MOVING ANY EFFIN' MORE. FULL STOP!!!!!!!! >:(

I,ve lived in this house for the last 32 years and still remember the hassle i had with the penny pinching bugger who, finally, bought my old one. He wanted everything left then stalled as long as he possibly could as he was living virtually rent free in his then house. His wife and daughter finally marched him to the solicitors to exchange contracts. ;D. Met her about three years ago and asked how the family were and she said fine except that hubby died about ten years ago. Whoops, but i did think what goes round etc. :-X. So, intend to stay here till they carry me out. ;D

Yep, lucky the weather is like it is, otherwise it'd have taken a fortnight to dry!

Well done Tony! :y
Your ticker is obviously in good shape as the stress of that would have finished off many of the old boys on here! :-X ;D

Lord Opti and STEMO are as fit as fiddles from the hours of moshing they have been doing. ;D ;D ;D

Thinking on.... ::)
With Uncle STEMO walking the whippet daily and Lord Opti chasing the maids all over Opti Towers, I'm sure a bit of mutual moshing is well within their capabilities! :)
It's their mental health we should be worried about! ::) :P ;D

Wondering if it's a euphemism. :-\
