Hey, I've just recently acquired a 3.2 lump for a future conversion (needs gaskets changed and painting) currently have a 2.6 at the moment and the gearbox would melt under the 3.2, but was wondering if a 2.5td gearbox bolts onto the 3.2 lump, not sure if its been done before, i know there alot stronger and the gearing ratio is better any help would be appreciated ;D

99% sure that box won't bolt to a 3.2 block, you'd need an R25-28 box
-
no way unless you make an adaptor plate,
having said that diesel ratio,s would no be best suited to 3.2 anway

Buy the 3.0 engine and manual gearbox NickW has for sale, and then sell one of the engines on. ;)

Cheers lads, was worth an ask, ill either search for an r28 or an ar35, seen a couple on ebay, i managed to get the 3.2 very cheap so going to do all the gaskets and paint, or i could nick the corvette gearbox off my dads lotus omega ;D :D

Nicks engine will have the box you want attached. Just buy that, use the box for your car, sell the engine on and you have a free gearbox. ;)

I spent way too much on the car this month as it is, i can't afford another engine, I've got to find somewhere to put my 3.2 first, let alone another engine and gearbox :D

It's complete except for a gear lever.

The standard TD box is an AR25, which is barely strong enough for the TD, certainly not if the latter is chipped as mine was. The AR25 can be physically made to fit a 3.2 by swapping the bell housing, as I have done the reverse, fitting an AR35 from a 3.2 to a TD with a new bell housing. But an AR25 would not last until the first set of lights, if that, on a 3.2. :y

I always felt the AR25 ratios were wrong on the TD anyway, and required higher revs in 3rd before changing up, no doubt the profile was chosen for economy rather than performance. Chipping helped, but the ratios were still wrong, even with an AR35 fitted. :y

Ah cheers buddy, so will defiantly need a ar35 or an r28, i was wondering it i could run the 3.2 on the 2.6 geaebox for a while, but dont want to risk being broken down somwhere :D i know it a fairly easy conversion but do you know what acutally is needed to be swapped from the 2.6 to the 3.2? Ive been told everything but that dosent narrow it down ;D ive heard that 2.6 manifolds and inlet's was alot better than the 3.2 ones?
-
All the wiring and sensors from the 2.6 onto the 3.2 and call it done ;)
-
If it was me, which it isnt I would fit a Manual Box to a 3.2 if going down a gearbox swap route, then just need to source the correct diff.
-
And prop, pedal box etc

We talking only autos?
Diesel auto still AR25, so same box fitted to 2.6 Auto.
