malcy-p's post on his "flat" engine brought up rev numbers at which the rams open.On my commute due to speed limits/weight of traffic the highest mine-3L auto-gets is a nudge over 2,000rpm[accelerating from a standstill and keeping up with other traffic]while most of the time it's circa 1,500rpm.The last time I had it to 70mph[a long long time ago for a variety of reasons]it was-from memory-running at something below 3,000revs,so how fast do you need to be going for these things to operate?

All about engine speed ::)
So, as per the Multiram explanatory guide, 3 and 4k rpm :y

Sorry DG I should perhaps have been clearer it wasn't engine speed I was meaning it was road speed although I do realise that this would be dependant on what gear the car was in at the time,but surely the auto should have hit third at least-if not top-by the time you're at those revs?

Depends on throttle position. On full throttle in an auto, I guess 2nd is engaged at 6000 rpm, 3rd and 4th similarly. That's how to get maximun acceleration.

Exactly, road speed is utterly irrelevant :D

Press the sport button and bury the accelerator pedal in the carpet and it will come close to the red-line in each of the lower gears before changing up. :)

Ah,all that would explain a lot then as I've never used the sport button in either the Senators nor the Omega and-from memory-I've never had the Omega above 4,000revs,basically because I've never had the need to.

You should try it some time. It's therapeutic. :y

The opening depends on rpm and load.
My Omegas usually sit up towards the redline most of the time...

I use the sport button at least once every day. :y
