.... should only be allowed on the roads at night! >:(
That's it. Rant over! :)
-
Why, was you held up,while going to get your pension. ;D.
-
Two portacabins going up the A34 this afternoon, taking up both carriageways and I got stuck behind them from about the M4 to the M40! :(
Pension! Cheeky bugger! >:( ::) ;D

As long as they were doing 56, can't see a problem, for you to try and keep up. ;D

Why the hell was one trying to overtake the other when they can only have had a speed differental of about 1mph? Cupid stunt!
Ron.

What? Who overtaking who?
-
No they weren't overtaking just taking up the whole dual carriageway and their escort was behind preventing anyone from squeezing past. >:(
The tailback they caused was phenomenal and totally unnecessary IMO! ::) As an ex-lorryist myself I see no reason why wide loads like this can't be banned from the roads during the day. :)
-
Trouble is now that a lot of roads are closed overnight for repairs and the wide loads probably couldn,t use the narrower detour routes. :-\
-
As an ex lorryist, you should be all to well aware of why they wouldn't let you past... The lorry driver has a much better view than someone three cars back ::)
-
Are you complaining that the roads are being used to transport stuff from one place to another?
Seriously? ???

I'm not disputing that and understand why they were not letting people past, just saying that they should be restricted to night hours. 2000-0600 would do. :P

Yes seriously. :y
There is no place on today's congested roads for loads like this to be transported during peak hours. ::)
With a bit of planning, there is no reason why they couldn't be restricted to 2000-0600, apart from not being able to double man. ;)

You forget that the police only do Monday To Friday 9-5...

Why do they need the police? ???
-
Some loads do ;) depending on the load and local authorities :y
-
Police used to escort wide loads - for a price. But its yet another job, outside of the Police station that they mostly gave up on years ago.
-
They've given up on the Police station too here. ::)

Well that's fine then. If a police escort is necessary then they can have that at night as well. :y
They'd have to book and pay for it in advance for daytime maneuvers, so no different to do it at night. ;)
Next? ??? ;D
-
<TB mode> We could just shoo..
Nope, I got into trouble last time I said that :-X
-
Up to a certain size/weight the police don't get involved now,

A large capacity motorcycle would have solved the problem.
Would the Victorian kraut have enough urge to pass anyway?
-
Actually, Tigger is on to something here. At night the roads are empty. During the day they are clogged up with lorries. So, if lorries were only allowed at night.........

But what if I want to go somewhere? ::)

Teleportation is the answer to movement of both goods and people.
Problem solved.

Jeff Goldblum will tell you that teleportation does not end well..

Moral of that story? Don't have a Netgear switch in the connection. ;D
-
A little refinement of the process may be required in the early stages.........as with any new technology. :y
By the year 2200 we will each have our own teleportation pod for sending and receiving people and goods. :)
The roads will be empty.
-
The thing that worries me about teleportation - apart from interference with the "signal" (remember the film "The Fly"?) - is what happens if you have two or more receivers? Can you imagine having multiple STEMOs....... :o :o :o
Ron.

Not to worry. By the year 2200 STMO will be long gone. As will we all.
Of course, there is the chance somebody will dig him up and use the DNA from his bones to clone him. :-\

I was in the Mondeo which although it is like driving a biscuit tin, it's 2.2tdci drags it along quite nicely thank you! :y
My old Panzer has been chipped so I would have flown by those portacabins in a cloud of smoke! ;D

It will all be solved by HS2. The Network Rail chap, who now has a senior role in HS2 Ltd, told me, so it must be true.
-
Very rarely in all the years I've been driving (47) have I been delayed by a wide load , these guys have got a job to do & all respect to them .

I'm not disrespecting the guys in the slightest, it's just that they could do their job at night, that's all. :)

Did he post it on the interweb? :D
