No, NTL have.

Virgin were great until they merged with NTL and then NTL shut the virgin servers down and shifted everybody onto thier already overloaded heaps of shite!

Good result!

I would be using a wireless keyboard/mouse setup if I were you though, just in case a summer storm rolls past - probably next year now though  ;D ;D ;D

My link speed is 4meg down and 1/2 meg up.....but, thats just the link, the above is the throughput as strangled by the naff servers!

On what should be a 8mb line...

Joys of the island eh :(

Though to be fair it's often nearer the 5mb speed

Down 1297
Up 301

From BT broadband, looks like that might be quite poor then. :(

It will be an 8M line, its just the servers will be overloaded and hence you wont get 8m throughput.....

NTL are rubbish. I have to use the Dublin server to get an accurate result. Both Maidenhead and London are useless from here. And 'here' is Southampton...

It will be network capacity more likely than server.  Only servers some ISPs go through are proxies, though guess you could call the HGs a server, but they have the power to handle the full capacity of the central.

Just called a lad in the office and had him run one from there...

19mb down... and back up :)

Got to love the dedicated hard lines :)

even the public (ish) WiFi is 10mb duplex....
wish I lived nearer work, the amount of people that bring lappys in to down on is scarry

it should have little impact on the readings........

For example, here is my reading to Bombay (Mumbai)

The ping is obviously greater because there is one hell of a lot more routers and servers to get through......but the download speed is similar.

The only time i migh be quicker is if the test server is on the same network as your IP provider.

I had 7M off my BT line earlier today (using the dedicated bt login), which shows throughput of line (during day, so exchange not busy), but doesn't show internet bottlenecks.

Corporately yes. But infrastructure no - servers, even CS are still seperate from previous NTL and Telewest. I've used both and ex Telewest is much better.

I beleave they are, they only leased VPN's off other providers (mainly BT) for most of the inetrconnects anyway
