Title: happy chap
Post by: BazaJT on 20 November 2018, 17:53:05
Ordered a new battery for the Omega.I was advised it had been despatched and would be delivered today by Yodel.Sure enough this afternoon a white van[not sign written]pulled up and shortly after there was a knock at the door.As soon as I opened the door one of those electronic things you sign with a plastic stick was thrust at me[not a word spoken by the delivery guy]and he was trying to take it back off me before I'd even finished signing :o Once he did take it from me I got a grudging and very surly "Ta" and off he went.Always a pleasure to see a bloke happy in his work :-X

Not a job I'd be happy doing, either.

He probably had about 100 odd drops to do and was getting stressed.  :-\

Even so, it's not hard to be pleasant to folk though...  ::)

It will only get worse as more stuff is bought via the Internet.

Yodel was the courier of choice by the seller.I can understand the delivery guy being stressed/under pressure but a "Hello" or "Afternoon" couldn't hurt.

Like any other line of work, some of them have the personality of a house brick (and all the customer service skills of one) and some of them are decent, normal folk.. some ;D Actually the DPD, Hermes, FedEx, UPS and Amazon drivers that cover here are all decent enough - pleasant, will try a couple of neighbours etc, despite having 100 drops an hour* to try and fit in.

(*slight exaggeration)

You jest, when I had the misfortune* to work at TNT, that was a rural round in a 7.5t. Fortunately it wasn't limited as it was just too old :-X

Normal day would be 55-65 drops a day and 150km. January would see that drop to 30-40 drops but 240km.. (they used to stand down drivers on a seniority basis and combine the rounds to cover, hence the mileage would shoot up as you did 12 or so postcodes rather than the usual 4-5).

December, however was typically over 80 and 180-200km on your usual round.

If for some reason you were sent out in a van, then you occasionally had to do your collection round as soon as you were empty and head back for another load. Fortunately most collections were regulars and you had enough of a rapport to obtain some flexibility in delivery/collection windows.

*As with any job, it is always what you make of it, but the first three months saw me on the edge of a breakdown. Not sure what happened after three months, but the whole job suddenly became infinitely easier.

My Amazon delivery driver always smiles at me, even when I bollik him. He can't speak a word of English, you see.  :)
