Most of the Black Friday 'bargains' are about as genuine as 70% off a DFS sofa. :)

"Which" reckon that 87% of Black Friday "bargains" can be had cheaper during the year. ::)

Somebody I knew who worked as a buyer for Debenhams and of part of his job was buying in sale stock at advantages prices, so they could make sizable reductions and still make a profit. Overstocks, end of line where a new model is due etc.,etc. are always around for use as sale items. Caveat Emptor applies as always.

Most retailers now order in especially for Black Friday, which for many is bigger than xmas.  Nobody in (non food) retail does genuine sales, or have for 20yrs or more.

Basically.. if it's something you want/need at a price you can justify to yourself, buy it.
If it isn't or you can't, don't.

It's your money :y

I'm getting pretty p'd off at all the BFCM (Black Friday Cyber Monday) crap. It's become totally meaningless, just a commercial excercise.

Just once I got a bargain a couple of years ago, from a small independent shop, an electric guitar a genuine "less than half price". Even now in retrospect, I am very happy with it and the price I paid.

One of these http://glguitars.com/product/asat-classic-tribute-series/

Otherwise . . .'dangle berries'

Yes it's another meaningless American tradition that's been hoisted on us by the big corporates!  ::)  How many Brits actually understand the reason for Black Friday?  :-\

I did think that the Bosch drill was a pretty good deal though.  :y

You miserable old buggers obviously didn't!  ;D

I love Matt's cartoon today in the Telegraph. A desperate punter sat at a screen showing 'Black Friday deals' and saying 'A bad deal is better than no deal'.

I bought Mrs Mig something that looks very similar to that (but a Fender squire) a couple of Christmases ago and it plays beautifully.
For some reason it has a lot less string tension than my much more expensive guitars, which suits my old weak fingers.
I keep getting told off for picking it up instead of my own guitars, on the rare occasion I feel the need to play one.
You don't always get more by paying more.  :y

Stock clearance ready for the new year merchandise. Conveniently also gets people in to the shops to extend the Christmas sales figures...

There's now a Green Monday, second Monday in December... :D

Remember kids, if you need to put it on plastic, then you don't need it...  ;)

Yep.....Yorkshire folk like to 'keep brass in pocket'

I lived in North Yorkshire for a while. People didn't tend to like or trust foreigners*

Nowt wrong with a bit of thrift. Spend your brass on proper bargains, like the fruit and veg man or the butchers at the indoor market.
Bus into town, free. Three carrier bags of fruit, veg and meat, say £15. Bus home, free. Aye, lovely.  ;D

Well, after all I said SWMBO has been on about us getting a smart TV. At present we only have stupid TVs.

Tesco 49" smart TV with all all sorts of crap that I probably won't use, £269. Unable to find exact specs on internet, but box says 4k Ultra HD blah blah blah, and I do like the way Toshiba TVs work, so done. I asked about scart and was told that almost everything these days is HDMI, so there goes my VHS player !

So probably a Hisense TV then (Toshiba don't make TVs, they just license the brand to others)

They usually have 1 scart socket as they are targeted at the low markets

Hmm, ok. I've been buying Toshiba TVs for years. I just like the way they work. Anyway, this is the model Tesco £269. Not set it up yet, so no comments for or against. I'm not one of these fussy people who debate screen resolutions etc for ages. I'm sure it will be fine for the price and do what I require.

I,ve got a Toshiba Regza that my late SIL  :(  gave us when she upgraded to some monster set or other. It,s ok apart from an annoying chassis rattle at a certain soundtrack frequency. Tried changing the settings on sound menu to no avail and forums have loads of people with the same gripe.

I have a similar model, ronnyd, and the sound is dreadful from its tiny sixpenny internal speakers, so I feed the audio out into a separate amplifier and speakers.
More annoying than that is its reluctance to come out of standby unless I switch it off at the mains and nack on again. Toshiba know of the problem, and have no cure. Others have reported similarissues - does yours do it as well?

Ron.
