Title: Plucky ladies
Post by: BazaJT on 29 November 2018, 20:03:43
1970 and the London-Mexico rally began among the participants were a team of 3 ladies[Bronwyn'Bron' Burrrel,Tish Ozanne and Tina Kerridge-Reynolds]using a 1500 Austin Maxi.Unfortunately their rally ended in Argentina whilst they were lying 20th.Fast forward to 1997 and "Puff"[they'd called the car Puff the magic dragon]was discovered in a chicken shed, restored and returned to the road.In 2016 the then owner got in touch with Bron and asked if she'd like to buy the car which she promptly did.The plan now is that in 2020 Bron and Tina[Tish passed away in 2009]will re-run the rally in "Puff"to finish the rally begun all those years ago.Plucky ladies and I really hope they make it this time :y

I'm surprised that they made it as far as Argentina first time round :D A delay in a servicing stop and then having to wait for a recovery truck to pull them out of a ditch meant they were too late at a checkpoint which is what put them out of the rally. An interesting aside is that all the teams were offered guns :o[for self protection] but the ladies turned the offer down reasoning that in an emergency situation they'd probably finish up shooting each other rather than any bad guys :-X

My late Dad had one, the gearbox was excellent and it went for years, he even had it resprayed :D. So, i decided to get one. Total load of shite, suspension failures, couldn,t get second gear for love nor money and traded it in for a Mk2 Granny after three months.

More than can be said for the bits of bamboo held on with chewing gum and sellotape that connected it to the gear stick, sadly. ;D
