Title: Facial recognition
Post by: Varche on 15 December 2018, 09:18:44
Been in use successfully apparently in China for some time.

Used at Taylor Swift concerts in US to keep tabs on known stalkers.

Now coming to UK.

Good thing? Anyone worried?

My thought is that one day anyone identified as “unknown” will be rounded up!

I think you'll find that it's been in use for some time in the UK and we are the most surveilled populus on the planet.  :)

Some shops have been "trialling" it for a bit. "Trialling" means they can implement without the normally needed legislation.

Piece I watched on tv about it said it wasn't very good at picking faces from a crowd.

Presumably your face  is  already well known by the constabulary in Miseryside. :)

That would be because we were not using the Chinese technology! ;D

About 10 or so years ago I read that East Ham (London, for northerners) had such cameras and could scan and identify 500,000 facial images per second! If you had ever had a photograph on ANY official document. even a library ticket, you would be on the database and recognised. Worrying.....

Yes  :y
I've setup my shops DVR on the sly to send a email if one or two local cockwombles walk through the front door  ;)
Not working very well tbh but at least it keeps my team leaders fit by running around the shop looking for said little shits  :D

Apparently Mi5 and London underground's system works better (allegedly)
Also works good in Hollywood.  ;)   Watch the series Person Of Interest for details

I've no doubt that the facial recognition systems available to the authorities are very good and are in a different league to those available to the general public.  ;)

Yes, it's already in use here and probably most other western countries (and China, obv.)
No, I don't really like it.
No, there's nothing you can do about it except move here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Sentinel_Island), though I hear that didn't work out too well for the last chap who tried (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/22/john-allen-chau-man-killed-by-tribe-north-sentinel-island-declare-jesus)
