have you lost the ID40 chip out the key that won't work ?
or try the key the other way up ,
or put the working  ID40 chip in the key you want to use

sometimes other keys and "toys" on the key fob upsets the signal too

Your key has 3 separate parts: the metal key for the lock, the remote for the alarm and the immobiliser chip. They're all replaceable, but the key is the only part that doesn't need the car programmed to it.

Why did you throw the chip away, rather than refitting it :o  ?

If its still in your dustbin find it. Otherwise your current key is scrap until you get another chip and have it programmed to your car.

You have been a "Right Charlie " here Charlieboy . . .   It might not be a very nice job  . . .but . . . IF your rubbish has not been collected yet it will be well worth you putting on a pair of latex gloves, getting a magnifying glass & searching through it very throughly to find the lost chip. All depends if your collections are weekly or fortnightly I suppose .Otherwise, as said in other posts , a new chip is not expensive but has to be programmed to the car .

The key isn't scrap as it will start turn the locks. It just won't start the car.

getting hold of AN Other chip will be easy enough, but you then need to find someone that has the kit to re-programme it ie Tech II

So its about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike - scrap.  ;D

It's missing the cheap part. And you've clearly never had to move a car without a key that was locked with the steering lock on and the trans in park. In a multi-storey car park :o

You don't need a new key, just a new chip which are a few quid on Ebay. However you get one, it will need the car programmed to it.

A new chip and a day out to drive to Brackley sounds in order ... a new key will need programming just like a new chip will ... so the cheapest option is .....    :)
