You might find it easier removing the plenum as its only a couple of bolts /few pipes and that will give you better access imho..thats how I tend to work on them but scuttle is another option

Left hand drive you shouldn't need to  :y

It will improve access slightly, but you aren't working around the brake servo...

When I did mine, I removed the scuttle. Because the wipers are obviously off, it was only a few more minutes work to remove the scuttle support bracket (2 torx bolts), and then the wiper motor and linkage (2 or 3 8mm bolts plus the electrical plug from memory?) which gave a lot better access to the hoses for the spring clip release tools. Whilst the scuttles is off, you can also check the metalwork where the scuttle clips locate and then treat any surface rust that usually has started.

Good point re scuttle condition and wiper motor, although the OP's in Finland, so wipers are also out of the way :y

The scuttle might as well not be there on mine given the amount of water pissing out over the top of the engine these past few weeks..

...would like to say not possible. My hands were too big, I removed. Does Omega (V6) have a bleeding "cap" somewhere. It would help to fill the system again, never found it in Omega but in my Astra 1.6 (2010) there is one.

It's possible, but not worth the grief considering how easy the scuttle is to remove. I don't think it's worth removing either the wipers or plenum, as that's just a different amount of faffing about rather than anything useful. The HBV is much easier to change if it's not afflicted with the spring type hose-clamps.

There isn't a bleeding cap; forum suggestion is to leave the engine running and burp the top hose until the thermostat opens. I find that's too much hassle, so I fill the expansion tank, leave the car idling until I've put the tools away and then drive it  couple of miles. Then I top up the coolant before I use it next.

Answer is no, you don't need to take scuttle off,,, ;D  There's enough wiggle room on the pipe work to release the clips, if you want you can release the heater pipes from the matrix, and from aux pump, fit to new hbv, and re-attach.

Once again, It was not possible for me due to my big hands. Thanks for Nick W of Forum Suggestion and own practice as well.

I've done it with the scuttle on but only because time was pressing.  For your first time I would take it off considering how easy it is.

If you have a "water tight" scuttle like mine now seems to be I wouldn't open up another can of worms removing it.

For me the few extra minutes removing the plenum gives me better working access and also gives less likely hood of future issues when refitting. Its also a good opportunity to clean out any oil residue in the breather pipes.

Agree with topping up reservoir fully and allowing to run whilst putting everything away, then a short drive and recheck.

Is the scuttle in the same side R/L hand drive cars. I do not understand how to get contact with HBV without removing it. Concerning "Water Tight" scuttle I always put some sealant (silicon paste) around wiper axles to prevent water going through. Now all OK, no leakage and system filled like Nick W proposed except I never "put the tools away, they are around...

I work in the street outside my house, so that's not an option.
