my son has just acquired a new car but he has had to replace a brake bulb. that got me to thinking , I had an omega for ten years & I only remember replacing one bulb. then an elite 2.2dti ,2yrs - no bulb replacement & my present dti did swap headlights but no new bulbs. as I have only ever had the one car at any given time I think that's really good.

Vectra C and Seat Altea both used to eat bulbs...
Merc E Class used to cook the cornering lights, but the system was permanently on with the Xenons, and most of my driving was at night, which might explain it...

My Mundano blows the nearside dipped beam bulb and on closer inspection when I had the headlight unit out on Saturday, I noticed a spiders web inside the unit. :D
Which may explain not only why the bulb blows, but also why the adaptive headlight system turns itself off not long after the lights are turned on. :-\

I`ve got a door mirror spider, the little booger lives to annoy me >:(
I bought a set of brighter bulbs for the head lamps, but one failed :-X so I put my orignal halogens back in . I changed my high beams back to standard, cos the brghter bulbs just dazzled me, when they refected off the road signs.
In 8 years my desmond has never blown a bulb,. The indicator bulbs were changed for the MOT a few years back, cos the orange colour had faded.

One day when I can be bothered I’ll take the glass out and hit him with 40psi or compressed air 😂😂😂

Everyone has to have a mirror spider it's the law ::) In seven years the Omega has so far never needed a bulb :-X but then it's hardly gone anywhere in that time[about 5,000mls]and rarely in the dark.The V70 has had one number plate light bulb and one dipped bulb in under three years,but given that the dipped beam[and all rear lighting]is used as the DRL's so on as soon as ignition is I don't really think that's too shabby. :y

I've had my 3.2 for sixteen years now and had to change the front offside side light bulb last week.
I've probably cursed it now.

Pm me when you remove the glass, as you will probably need a new glass..... ;D

I usually have a pet spider in my mirror throughout the summer. I feel as if I am giving something a home. It becomes my spider and I get quite protective of it.
I warn it when the Eastern European's are going to try and evict it, so it can get right inside away from the jet wash. I keep it occupied by destroying the web it makes across the mirror in the night.
It's usually gone by the winter, poor little fella. :(

He`s fine, spiders are cold blooded & can survive minus temps. 8)

In any car I've had, the standard bulbs have usually been pretty reliable. "Upgraded" bulbs, be they the 80/100s of yesteryear, or the Nightbreakers/Vision+ type we get now seem shorter lived.
If a bulb repeatedly blows, its most likely getting subjected to vibration (or poor fitting), for example, TBE's numberplate bulb fails at least annually due to a combo of the poor Irmscher bumber and the fact the LPG filler is mounted right below it. Though at 30p a bulb, and a couple of mins to fit, its not worth doing anything about it.

I've had a crack across my offside door mirror which I have been living with for ages, but if an unbroken one became available at a sensible price..... 8)

Both E64s I've had have given problems with the numberplate bulbs for, I assume, the same reason - randomly I'll get the "*bong* Number Plate Lamp Failure" warning (ah, the BMW *bong*, how I hate thee).. but since it always seems to manage to work for the MOT, I've er.. never done anything about it :-X

Hahahaha many times I’ve broke mirror glasses 😢😢😢
Reminds me, must change Battlebus mirror glass. I stuck it back on its backing a year or 2 ago, but have a new one, when I CBA
