Hard work sorting out a deceased persons estate.
Found a chrome bonnet mascot wrapped in a rag. It is identical to this one on ebay but has the chromed base that screws onto something like a radiator neck.
Item number 254100464384.
Any gurus out there know what vehicle it is from or if they were an aftermarket accessory to upgrade your car maybe?

You mean like this:

Without a front view it is hard to say, but it is not for a Rolls Royce or is it? :D ;)
In my childhood so many cars were still going around with these mascots which added real character to them.
Shame they are no longer allowed, but at least pedestrians do not have their guts ripped out anymore! :y

try this http://www.mascot-mania.co.uk/ winged woman on a globe :y

She does LOOK like the Spirit of Ecstacy, Lizzie, but maybe not posh enough?

maybe a period knock off ,one off art project ,or not for a car bonnet :-\

It is identical to the one on ebay except the ebay one hasnt got the bonnet fitting so isnt a one off.
We initially thought for a Rolls Royce but then research pointed at maybe a Packard.
-
Triumph[the cars not the bikes]had at one time the globe as a radiator badge,so maybe an even earlier version to sit on top of the radiator shell as opposed to the coloured ones that were fixed to the front of it?

Been checking that on line and this seems to have been a typical Packard radiator cap of the twenties:

And this is another version fitted to these cars in the 1940's:

Still favour now a cheap Rolls Royce version (if there ever was such a thing!!) :D ;)

Just stick it on ebay as "first prototype of Spirit of Ecstacy, genuine RR new old stock "

Surely Rolls Royce wouldn't be so vulgar as to leave the driver staring at the spirit's bare @rse as they drive along? :o
Mind you, now they're owned by BMW... ::)

They commissioned the Spirit of Ecstasy due to the number of vulgar and inappropriate mascots their customers were fitting.
Fitting aftermarket mascots was a common thing into the fifties; the equivalent of todays spoilers and tacky exhaust trims. Some of the mascots are lovely; Lalique for instance.

USA auction on Catawiki finished it had a guide price of £150 to £200.put on by their experts.
It made £386.

Isn't the SoE also modelled after the secretary the boss was knocking off at the time? High class, those Rollers!
