Title: LSD problem.
Post by: Mutha Jugs n Speed on 12 February 2019, 18:10:58
Trying to figure out what the problem is with the 3.2 auto, this is only pulling away on left or right angles i.e roundabouts and junctions....the problem being that as I start to pull away, I get a fairly loud clicking and vibration from the rear end,IIRC this may have been dealt with a fair while ago,but a search didn't reveal anything..mileage is currently 102k. TIA :y

Diff issue?

Oil level OK? CV joints OK?

If it feels like a bad shock absorber on one side, then your LSD is worn out.
While driving it will engage en disengage and that feels like a bad shock.

The shocks are virtually brand new Bilstein B4's fitted nine months ago,so Im thinking it's got to be one or even both of the possibilities that Dr G has outlined.  ::)

I am not saying that your shocks are bad, but it feels like it, but only if you have a LSD
If you have a normal diff, oil, bearings, to much play.

I get a fairly loud clicking and vibration from the rear end

And then you get this

Once the car is under power, everything is normal except for the initial start off, diff is quiet...no whine or rumble. Will have to get the whole thing checked out. ::)

Might be worth changing the diff oil, adding the correct LSD additive, before doing anything more drastic.

Known issue once diff oil well used....yours could be 15yrs plus old..easy fix, drain old oil and replenish with correct oil and the little tube of gm friction modifier

Might also be a dicky gearbox mount...

Easy enough to check and change if required  :y

In my experience of LSD's on the Omega, and I had a few now, is that they do thump, or a slight knock when pulling left or right out of  a junction, does they noise get louder or quieter with the TC off.

Yep. Worth checking the centre propshaft support while you're under there too.

Mine was doing this last year. Changed the oil (with correct LSD oil, of course), no more problems. Not a bad job to do.

Probably was on the original Oil, you where lucky, as normally in between leaving the Force and finding a Competent Owner, some Muppet from Vx or A N Other Garage stuffs normal diff oil in there which knackers up the clutch plate over time.  ;) :y
