Hi Folks
I have a 1999 Omega Elite 2.5 V6 petrol which has run almost faultlessly for the 20 years I have owned her (from new).
I now have a problem....when I try and start her she will fire up and run very lumpy for a few seconds then stop and will not start apart from firing and running for about 2 seconds.
I have checked a few things....
If I get the car to start and run (lumpy at first) and then put my hand over the air inlet at the air flow meter, she will run and rev pretty normally sucking the palm of my hand. Could it be the actual air flow meter that is at fault or does the problem lie elsewhere? Is there a way of checking the air flow meter to see if it works properly?
Appreciate any help/experience on this please!! :)

I would check for fault codes and report back.

I would check the fuel level... Unless the car is reasonably level, if it's got less than a quarter in the tank it will effectively run out.
Put 3 gallons in and report back. Failing that, Jack the lowest corner and try again.
If neither of these work it is most likely the fuel pump or crank sensor...
But start with the obvious :y

Fuel level, as above
Fuel filter - when was it last changed
Crank sensor
Fuel supply issue - pump, relay etc.....

Thanks for all the replies.
Checked fuel and pump - there is plenty of petrol at the petrol pipe - if I take off the union petrol squirts out at quite a rate!
Engine does start and runs lumpy which makes me think it cannot be the crank sensor. Had the crank sensor fail when the car was still in warranty and had engine light on and definitely would not even fire. No engine light and from my simple OBD Elm 327 no fault codes.
Question: if the air flow meter is disconnected/removed will the engine run normally or will it run lumpily?

Unplugged, if it runs normally, you have found the problem... It will put the EML light on though. No change and the MAF is ok ;)
Also, be aware that the crank sensor very rarely throws a code on the v6 ;)
