They saw what VW were doing and said "We want a piece of that!", apparently...

The most shocking thing about that article (if true) is that you can buy a 2litre range rover sport!
-
Just checked the configurator - you can indeed; 2.0 4-cylinder with 300hp, 2.0 4-cylinder hybrid (404hp), 3.0 straight-six (400hp) or 5.0 V8 with supercharger in 525 or 575hp trim..
I know which I'd be going for. If I had a spare £101,000 (base price) :o ;D

Its funny, I still haven't re-calibrated my brain to the idea of 300bhp from a 2.0l 4-pot. Despite having driven a car with one in. On that basis its probably 'enough' bearing in mind the 4.0 v8 in the P38 made do with 185bhp
-
Likewise - a 2.0, in my mind, belongs in a shopping trolley .. 'tis a strange world we live in!
-
Can't see it lasting much past the factory warranty either... :-\
-
I think that they put that 2.0ltr 4 pot in the Disco 5 as well, and that's a tank of a thing! :-\ ::)

Yeah, that's not going to be stressed. Much. 1.0 Mondeo estate anyone... ;D
-
2.0 four pot diesels are the way to go. Everyone should drive one. :P

VW saw the news and the CEO said "That's nothing, hold my beer and watch this": https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-47566898 ;D
tl;dr: "The [German] chief executive of Volkswagen has apologised for evoking a Nazi slogan to describe the importance of boosting the group's profits."

Yes, they should.
Not everyone will enjoy the experience. Same applies to 1.0l petrol triples: OK in a Fiesta, horrible in a Focus and I suspect undrivable in a Mondeo.

we have 3 Vauxhall 4 pot tractor juice cars in the fleet now and I quite like them :y they seem to accelerate ok in traffic :P
(obviously I don't have to drive them much , ;D)
Maybe the government should step in,
get a British car company to build a "peoples car" :-X
say a 4 door saloon,RWD obviously , 4,898mm long should do ::)
choice of engines ,a 4 banger dirty tractor juice lump, a V6 engine with free unlimited petrol or V8 with petrol subsidy of 90%
and a choice of automatic transmission (for the old ,lazy ,infirm ;D) and one with a full set of pedals 8)
most of the design ,moulds/tooling etc already exist, and could be purchased quite cheap as OPEL are not using it ;D
if they hurry and sort if BEFORE Brexit shuts down all trade with the Euromob ::)
all sounds reasonable to me :)

I believe that there will be a car factory going cheap in Swindon soon! :y
They'd better get in quick before it meets the same fate as Longbridge and becomes a housing estate! :)

With its predecessor the Austin 7, succeeded by the Austin 1100 and then the Rover 200/25 :y

1139 mm too short and I doubt it would fair well with my choice of engines ::)

90 and 110 inches are good sizes for Brexit British cars! :y

Have seen one with a V8 lump had huge rear wheels to cope with the power.

bet it drove fine in a straight line , up to 30 MPH ;D

I had to drive a Defender years ago ,towing breakdowns with a bar
utilitarian ,I probably could get my tools in it though :y
they stopped making real land rovers though IIRC

The one a friend built used Jag uprights and diff with everything else scratch built. Wide steel wheels under an unmolested body painted a stock colour, it looked innocent. Large roundabouts at 100mph? No problem, the car was far more capable than me. Allegedly ::)
