Title: Barnsley Council.......phone.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 14 March 2019, 13:08:21
I'm currently looking for a new phone but I don't need one that comes with all the bells and whistles and costs £500 plus.

Is this any good?.....or does it rely on technology from the Victorian era?

I wonder if STMO sourced the phones for the council as a gesture of goodwill. ::) ::)

You shouldn't judge everyone by the standards of a scouse reprobate in the sixties and seventies. ;)

.......having said that I think everyone used to piss in the phone box back in the day. :)

I have a Lumia 640 for work, and its positively....   ...utter crap in every way. Utter, utter crap.  The hardware is awful, and the OS is very very buggy and inconsistent.  Did I mention it was shite.

Its one and only redeeming feature is pretty reasonable battery life...  ...but that doesn't take away the fact its utter shite.

In summary, its shite.

From what I read, developers CBA to build apps for such a niche product. And the apps that are available haven't been up dated for donks. Nice, smart phone with a great screen, apparently. But......what's the phrase I'm looking for....utter shite. That's it.  ;D

MS did get devs behind it, but then proceeded to piss them off by moving the goalposts.  Then it was all oppsed about 3yrs ago when MS started not updating their Windows Mobile apps.

Is it still running the (buggy) Windows 8, or the totally unreliable Windows Phone 10?

Mine is crap in every way. Awful touchscreen response, sluggish, needs frequent restarts, in between the weekly going flat restarts.

If I rated my aging gayPhone 6s as 7/10, the 640 would 2/10, extra 2 points for being able to do DA which neither crApple's paranoia or Goofys info collection system can do.

I only want it to make and receive calls and I have no idea what an 'app' is or what to do with one.

Still, TB seems to rate it highly as he rates Shami naked and available,  so for £55 delivered 'what's the worst that can happen'? ;) 8)

dont do forums/farceboo on phones, btw it was £30 from a shop in town, put a wallet/case on it and a laminated screen thingie, total cost under £40.  did I mention I`m from Yorkshire?

edit a quick look on Eblag has them from a tenner, through £25 delivered reconditioned etc,

Mine spends most of its life just spinning those dots.  Fortunately we have access to Microsoft support, but as its a dead duck, its just a reboot (that solves it for a few days), and they are now saying they wont react to fixing those sort of faults.  MS are recommending we swap them out for iOS/Android devices as soon as possible.

When it does work, its too sluggish, and an awful touchscreen.

I felt it was better on WinPhone 8 (although the touchscreen was still inaccurate, making typing on it bad), but was forced to 10 for other reasons. But still not a patch on a current-ish iPhone or half decent Android device.

The excellent 6310 lacks such pointless extras. It makes calls and does texting. Brilliant bit of kit.

But its battery connections are only good if its not thrown about, and Mrs Opti has been known to throw his technology at him, even for such trivial things as saying her sister looked better....

The French don't really have a "dish" or style of food (Parisians might think they do, but Parisians are as near to the French as Londoners are to the British).  For the most part, French cuisine is much like UK cuisine.  Obviously on the south coast, fish features more strongly.

I will concede, however, the French can't cook a slab of cow.  They have to serve in near raw so as not to need a chainsaw.

I contacted Barnsley council and spoke to a very polite man who sounded remarkably like John Noakes.

" You can send it back for a full refund " he said.........or you can keep the phone with no charge to you.

Paris would be nice, if it weren't for the Parisians.  I felt very little love living there for 5 years, once the Parisians knew I was English they would often turn their backs or all of a sudden be needed elsewhere/product not available/etc.  In the rest of France it is a very different picture and most Froggies have quite an affinity for the English and British (some even know the difference between the two).

If you want a culinary experience like no other then I suggest you head to Lyon and eat in a 'bouchon' resturant.  These are certified as serving authentic Lyonais food which can be quite..... interesting  ::).  Poulet au vinaigre, however, is easier to stomache and is something everyone should try once in their life. :P

French beef should be at most medium-rare, personally I prefer blue with a big dollop of Dijon mustard or bernaise sauce.  nom nom.....

I actually feel more at-ease with Parisians than I do with Berliners .. the Parisians seem infinitely more friendly; it's not that the Berliners are unfriendly, it's just that they're very German (apologies to Zirfeld ;D)..
