Waitrose have had to pull their Chocolate Ducks off the Shelves after complaints of Racialism on the name of the Dark Chocolate Duck.
The three Ducks, in Milk, White and Dark Chocolate, had Names, Crispy, Fluffy and Ugly, which Waitrose say were inspired from the Bedtime Story "The Ugly Duckling" by Hans Christian Anderson, you know the one where one of the Duckling is a different colour from the others and then gets a load of stick from the other Ducklings, for those who cant remember the Story a Swans Egg accidentally rolls into a Ducks Nest.
Waitrose pulled the product from its shelves and redesigned the packaging, with the names of the ducklings removed.
A Waitrose spokesperson said: “We are very sorry for any upset caused by the name of this product, it was absolutely not our intention to cause any offence".
Whats your views, is this Political Correctness gone mad or is Waitrose being Racist here and have correctly been slapped across the wrist.
more importantly if you never did get to read the Bedtime Story when you was a Nipper you can read it Online here -

Sorry, forgot to mention, No Duck was harmed, melted or eaten during the making of My Post.
Oh, and as yet, no one from the Chinese Community has complained about the Crispy Duck.
-
Perhaps they should have called it Speckled ::)
Truth be told, Waitrose has far bigger problems than chocolate ducks...

Speckled Hen?, not a bad Pint, not sure you should be feeding it to Kids though, .....although it might help to get the little blighters to sleep at night.

Oh my, I have not laughed that hard for quite some time. Who in their right mind signed that one off? ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Give me strength, fu**ing ridiculous I've said it before the world has gone stark raving bonkers 😀

This is not new and I personally can understand the, unintentional, offence caused to black people.
Decades back we had the issue regarding "Golliwog" badges, so we all should have learnt that we need to show some respect to all. How about if the white duck had been called "Honkey"?
Come on, there are many more important stories in this world than this one. ::) ::) ::)

So why the Honky reference ??? It isn't even culturally relevant.

So you don't remember us whites being called "Honkeys" then? In London it was certainly the case in the 1970's ;)

You think that brand would have survived if it has been called Ugly Black Magic? ??? ???

"Honky" is a pejorative term used by black people for a white person - so racism works both ways.

Indeed, but a post war slur originating in the industrial MID West still has nothing whatsoever to do with a Hans Christian Anderson fairy tale ::)
And I very much doubt that he wrote it as a study about the life and times of Hans Jonatan :-X

DG, my comment was more in response to Lizzie's post, not to have a pop at you - would I DARE! :-X

This has been discussed on another thread.

Remember, there is no such thing as bad publicity. And the JL Partnership need all the help they can get, as they are the next Debenhams.

I don't think that Ratners would agree, TB!

Back in the late eighties and early nineties the youth of the period would walk through town with an oversized stereo appliance perched on their shoulder.
People would refer to it as a ghetto blaster or wog box.......such description would probably be considered racist today...... ::)m

Possibly... if you live in a crumbling tenement and hail from the dark continent :-\
Edited as my original reply didn't sit well...

That wasn't a publicity stunt, it was a private dinner speech ;)
