Title: I need something a bit bigger
Post by: STEMO on 19 April 2019, 18:12:52
Thought that would make you look  ;D ;D

My astra is a decent car and I'm very happy with it, but......
I'm starting to find boot space a bit too small for all my stuff. Dog crate takes up almost half of it, then all the doggie bits, walking boots, etc. I'm ok with just a few shopping bags but, when we went up to North Yorkshire for a few days, I had bags on the floor and front seat.

Can someone point me to a diesel, auto estate that is exactly the right size and exactly the right price please.  ;D

How about an Insignificant, (as the dog clearly isn't too big)  :D

Not much bigger, the old shape ones. Don't want to spend as much as new shape. Well, actually, it would be a waste of money for what I'd get. Looking around £6-8K.

buy an omega estate  :)
oh wait ....
can't put shopping in an omega because it upsets the suspension geometry  :-X
and you won't be able to afford dog food and all the petrol you''ll need  :-\

Here you go...

Cheaper than a new car or dog ;)

.....when we went up to North Yorkshire for a few days, I had bags on the floor and front seat.

Sounds like someone needs to learn how to travel a bit lighter.  ::)

So for a few days away Uncle STEMO all you need is a couple of T-shirts and a dress shirt for the evenings, and then there will be plenty of room for Mrs STEMO's copious amounts of luggage!  :y

Don't bother to thank me.  :)

Despite you being a light-fingered scouser of ill repute I will not make your life more difficult by suggesting any car that runs on the fuel of Satan. :y

I hope you will soon ' see the light '...... :)

What you need is something relatively small with regard to external dimensions, but huge on the inside.

Could Doctor Who be of assistance? :)

Yes, never heard the doctor whining about DPFs or passed him pootling along like an old dear worrying about whether he's still getting 55 MPG, so you're probably right. :y

Keep Astra for normal day to day, get an Omega Estate as dog car. It can be trashed and little care taken.

As the dog is with me 24/7, that would be no good. My astra is becoming trashed and little care taken.

As an aside, does your dog show signs of anxiety when separated from you?  Our dog spends , through necessity , most of the time with me too.

Seriously though.......why does it have to be diesel?

Derv is significantly more expensive and there is the additional cost of pig piss.

Also, diesel cars cost more to repair and service and kill more polar bears and black babies in Africa.

I suppose they best suited to dull pragmatists  who are fixated with getting the best MPG at exactly 56 MPH. :)

Repent while there is still time. ;D

I think that Merc is a bit racy for Uncle STEMO!  :-\  :P  :D

I suspect that something like this (https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201904197147566?sort=sponsored&make=FORD&transmission=Automatic&price-from=6000&aggregatedTrim=Titanium%20X&radius=1500&minimum-badge-engine-size=2.0&model=GALAXY&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&price-to=8000&postcode=bs32ab&advertising-location=at_cars&page=1) would be more like what he has in mind, given the need for room for dog crates, lady's luggage etc  :y

Petrol too! Should keep Lord Opti quiet!  :)

Whatever you and I suggest he will end up with a car that is terminally dreary.

A car that he won't make him look back when he parks it.

Expect something worthy but uninspired. ::) ::) 8)

Rare occasions were the key words. I obviously wouldn't leave it on all of the time, so it would need taking off and storing.

Probably more cost effective to buy two ratchet straps and these for the whippet:
