Question for the computer(geeks  ;)) i`m gonna sell my pc and buy a new laptop after i come back from florida as i aint gonna need both and i prefer the idea of just having a laptop....What should i look for? i.e. make and spec??? i dont do a lot other than surf and maybe make the odd cd copy for the car when i get bored but i would like a dvd/rw on it.... :-/ :-/
Oh and i dont really want to spend more than £400....

those acer ones in pc world at the mo are pretty good value for money :)

Once you've removed all the pre-installed crap that is like the rest of the pishyworld computers...

avoid advent like the plague...

Look for an IPC one - I used to sell these & they're good - IPC will custom build round their core specs.  Usually sold thro independant computer shops.

Don't think you'll get much for your desktop :(

I'd go for Core2 Duo, and 1G (minimum) ram, 965 (minimum) chipset.  Slightly specced up, but you need it to last 3 years.

I wouldn't normally recommend HP, but I bought one of their Business laptops last November (2.0Ghz Core2 Duo, 965, 1G RAM, 160G HDD, Bluetooth, DVD writer, Vista Business) for £450 and its been excellent.  Stick away from the consumer stuff though, and keep to Business lines.

Mine is a HP Compaq 6720s, I have spent an extra £30 at Crucial to take it to 2G.

Why?  I just got the wife the new Advent Mini computer and its great! Speed-wise on a par with my significantly larger HP dv6000......

....have I done a booboo?
